Rodo (Formerly Honcker) discussion/reviews

I’ve had two really good experiences with Rodo:

  • A 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. It was loaded with every option and no other deal came close to it. Between pressing the button and getting the vehicle was about 3 days. Ended up getting totaled a year later during a storm.
  • A 2020 Passport EX-L to replace the Trailhawk, this time it took 2 days to get the vehicle.

That said, the best lease deal I ever got in my lifetime was through this site though - @Bostoncarconcierge got me a unicorn deal on a Tacoma in 2019. Not even sure it would be legal to lease one at that price again.

I think for those that are willing to dig in and wait, better deals can definitely be had through brokers. For those that want a hassle-less experience, I think Rodo actually works well. It’s still infinitely better than dealing with dealers directly.

This week I got 2 cars from RODO & I can’t complaint. Cars were delivered to my door without any hassle & prices were fair as compared to few brokers over here.

I registered just to say I should have taken the prevailing advice from this forum. I placed an order, uploaded the required documents just to be told they did not have the car (after they spent a day “confirming” they had it). Its not a bad idea, maybe by the time they change their name again they might be a decent company, but you can’t actually rely on them to give you the deal they say.

From my experience and a buddy of mine who I recommended he give them a shot, we both had similar experiences.

The process went overall seamlessly once we agreed on a price with the dealership, but after we put in or app on Rodo, we got a call from the dealer saying that they didn’t have that exact car available and they tried to upsell u.

I was very firm about what I was looking for and we went back-and-forth. I ended up getting a slightly higher model for like 10 or 15 bucks more a month,
which made sense to me and as soon as we agreed they deliver the car the next day and it was great.

The only thing I caution people is that don’t get too emotionally attached a deal you see and expect to do a little bit of negotiating on the backend, and if you can’t make it work Just walk away.

I’m brand new to navigating car leases, so I decided to download Rodo to browse the deals and potentially get my first lease on the app.

Found a pretty good deal on a '21 Sonata Limited, so made an order hoping the deal would stay true. And then… like many others have mentioned, I got a call from Rodo telling me the deal doesn’t exist anymore and that they want an additional $500+ on the downpayment to get the target monthly payments I originally selected.

I was pretty firm on getting the car for the deal, so I immediately told him I’d like to cancel the order. Classic bait-and-switch scam; pretty disappointing.

-Placed an order yesterday morning

-Uploaded license, current lease contract and credit info immediately

-Received a call from the local rep handling the transaction around noon yesterday saying that it is processing and they are just waiting for the dealer. Said he will call back once he hears from dealer

-No callback from rep

-Today I tried to contact Rodo via chat and phone call (both were unavailable). I then emailed them and received a quick response saying that the vehicle is unavailable

Rodo - this is not good business practice and a complete waste of time for customers. Don’t advertise deals that you can’t follow through with. That is all.

I won’t be surprised if their main business is re-selling customers info.

Rodo = scam, just like all the dealerships, 100% bait and switch. I expressed interest in a vehicle and they increased their price by $200 a month. Their customer service agents were rude and disrespectful, no ownership of the shady pricing tactics. If this company want to exist in 12 months, they will execute on the business concept and advertise only available and correctly priced cars. Until then, just go get scammed directly at the dealer and cut out the middle man’s costs and scams…

So what car? What was original advertised deal?

I didn’t find much success with RODO, prices skyrocketed in may. Found better deals locally

Same here - I scored a great deal on a Jeep in 2018 when Honcker was new, the deal was $100/m less than the best price the local dealer would go, and for a higher trim level at that! But now as that lease is coming to an end, I didn’t see any deal worth pursuing on RODO unfortunately (though to be fair that’s likely in part because of it being a seller’s market now).

To add to this thread history, I was successful in picking up my 2021 Camaro LT1 (see this thread) using a lead generated from Rodo. My approach was to order the vehicle via Rodo’s concierge service and then ask to be connected directly to the originating dealer for all further communications. In the end, I was able to get the vehicle about $25/mo cheaper then the Rodo price. So far I have been successful with 3 out of 5 Rodo transactions.

Forgot my account info, doesn’t seem to work, just adding 2 cents to my Rodo experience

It’s terrible. Colossal waste of time as they kept trying to ask for more info after submitting both License and Credit application, only to be told “lol oops, no car, you know how it is, dealer is only pre-selling cars”.

Don’t bother giving these scammers your personal information that they are most likely farming to resell.

RODO had a full size Bronco Big Bend showing with base MF and a 1500 discount. So I ordered it. Let’s see what happens!

There is also another Camaro LT1 on Rodo right now.

I’ve lease two personal cars from RODO and assisted two friends with leases. They’re not scammers because it didn’t work out for you. Your experience is your experience.

Since I started the process of leasing an X5, I received an email to participate in paid research study. Not sure if RODO or the dealer sold my information but it was the best thing they did. I have been able to see new concepts and enjoy néw technology before they hit the market.

I have yet to have a good experience with the app. I think I’m 0/5 on new leases. During “normal times” this may not be much of an issue but after talking to someone pretty high up, the way the app works is it pulls all dealer inventory whether its in transit, available, or sold, until someone manually removes it from the app. So, whether it says check availability or place order, you still don’t know if that car is on the lot.

Additionally, due to my close proximity to MA, I’ve had a number fall through because those dealers won’t work with NY customers (reg. issues) and there is no way for me to know what’s a NY dealer post and what isn’t.

Only after I uploaded my personal info was I able to get anywhere, all to find out the above. If you have supplier/affiliate/whatever codes, that’s an additional step that takes days to communicate, even if the dealer will take it without rearranging the deal.

Honestly this is a great idea, but its not set up in the right way. I’d say there’s a lot less than a 50% chance you could get a vehicle for the given price as advertised.

They also aren’t properly handling things just because it did work out for you.
