My rear end isn’t going to go back to the dealer but the vehicle’s rear end sure is. :stuck_out_tongue:

Wrong tax rate so you’ve overestimated the amount of tax owed. So where did that money go?

Isn’t NJ tax rate 7ish %?

No, it’s 6.625% of the total lease cost (second radio button on the LH calculator which you have used correctly)

Separately there’s a luxury surcharge of 0.4% of the selling price (if above 45k) which appears to have been captured within gov fees (around low 300s usually)

Hi hackrs! I am leasing my first car ever, a bmw m340xi. I’ve been in the US for about 5-6 years now and have a healthy credit score and no claims whatsoever in the last 5-6 years.
Now, what sort of insurance would BMW be looking for when leasing a car from BMWFS?
Can I make my deductible 2.5k? Can I go for an insurance that has the highest deductible?
Which insurance company do you guys recommend in the NJ area?

Thanks so much in advance.

No you may not. Typically there’s a $500 deductible max for comp and collision. Some brands will allow $1000, but definitely nothing higher. You also generally have minimum coverage requirements. 100k/300k if memory serves, but I may be off there.

What does deductible on your insurance has to do with the brand?
Coverage limits - yes.

I had $2500 deductable with two BMFS leases and nobody said anything.

Some brands have lease requirements that require a maximum of $500 deductible. Some allow $1000.

Different captives/banks can have difference requirements for maximum deductible. It’s all about what’s in the contract and what’s allowed by state law.

Interesting. Never seen that, but maybe did not read the contract properly. I always thought it was up to me and the insurance company.

Minimum is 100/300 for coverage on a lease although your deductible doesn’t matter on a lease. I’ve never seen a requirement for deductible on a contract

I actually had a vehicle with a loan (admittedly not a lease) where I had a $1000 deductible and the contract required $500. I ended up getting billed for supplemental insurance until I got it corrected.

Two BMW leases in the last 6 months have this exact clause in the lease agreement…

Now folks are gonna go look at their agreements lol

Not for nothing, but if you do the math, a 2.5k deductible usually doesn’t make much sense from an risk/return perspective.

For example if you save $15/mo to go from $1k to $2.5k, it would take only 1 incident in 100 months (~8 years) of above $2.5k to blow the savings (not to mention the various scenarios with over $1k but sub $2.5k incidents). $15/mo isn’t going to make or break you if leasing a ~$600/mo car I presume. But taking a 1-time hit of $1500 on top of $1k is painful.

Just something to consider.

Yep, Volvo says not to exceed $1k for collision and $1k for comprehensive. It helps to read the lease contract :slightly_smiling_face:
But here is the different number, must be state by state:

Oooo… But if I’m going to pick up my car say on Monday. Aren’t I supposed to be insured by the time I goto pick up the vehicle? I’ve not signed anything yet, so obviously I won’t know what’s in the lease agreement. All of this is hypothetical btw.
