Worst leases you've seen

But how do we know this is a garbage deal if you don’t know what the numbers should be? That’s what I’m getting at. This could very well be a GREAT deal for all we know at this point.

Experience tells me off the get go, it’s a terrible deal. Anyone who would put this much down in a cap cost reduction and pay 700 per month is making a terrible financial decision.

Being a bad decision and a bad deal are not the same thing. You liking the deal and it being a bad deal are not the same thing.

Maybe your current car is worth $20k. You haven’t shopped it, so we have no clue. Maybe they are marking up MF, but you haven’t confirmed it, so we have no clue. Maybe MSRP is bad for this car, but we have no clue.

I’ve in no way given them the impression that I’m uninformed. I welcomed them to make and offer and my first response on their initial offer will let them know how informed I am.

I’ve wasted none of my time, perhaps wasted some of theirs (that’s their job), and learned a lot about what type of ball they are going to play. I let them know before they made their offer, that I am experienced leaser and that they should cut straight to real numbers. I’m loyal to no dealership and will happily get multiple dealers to bid competitive to get the best deal.

My current 540i I got at $489/month with $0 cap cost reduction. I know we’re in a bit of a different time, but I have more than enough time to make a deal.

ah they did you a favour, they stopped you from leasing the same car all over again.

Since ALL the deals suck, now you get the excitement of picking something completely different.

These are conflicting statements. You have poisoned the well from the get go by allowing them to set the framework of the negotiation conversation. Every step forward from here will be measured against their initial offer.

You’ve wasted your time up to this point by the time spent on conversations already, and you’ve wasted your time if you wanted to move forward by letting them start the ball much further down the hill you’re trying to push it up.

Ha, agreed! The market is complete shit right now…I may just buy out the lease cash and sell the car myself.

Let’s frame this conversation a little differently.

What price would you deem acceptable on this car?

And they’re one of 20 dealerships I can talk to. Look, I’m not going to get you to agree with me, but I’ve always made very very solid deals, with the exception of my first lease deal ever, and I have the way I go about it.

You have your way, I have mine. My current lease is on a 540i equally equipped and my monthly out the door is $489/month with zero cap cost reduction at 12,000 miles per year. A very solid deal.

You do you, I’ll do me.

That’s great, but you need to get that out of your head because what you got 3 years ago has exactly zero bearing on what you can get now.

It’s not about the price I would accept on this car. It’s that even if these numbers all checked out, someone taking this deal would be making a terrible decision. I’ve never been loyal enough to a brand to make such a bad choice to stay in a BMW. They can keep their loyalty cash.

Qbrozen made a good point, being a bad decision and a bad deal are not the same.

We can absolutely obliterate that deal OP

Christ you guys…

Look, I’m not expecting the same deal I got three years ago. Look at those numbers and tell me that you would take that deal, let’s assume all of the numbers checked out. It may be the best deal they can offer, do you take that deal?

Do you put 14,000 down on a lease?

Or would you perhaps decide to look elsewhere and make a significantly different decision?

You know you would not take that deal, if you have even an ounce of experience leasing cars.

Just about every bmw lease, even at the best possible deal, is a terrible decision right now. But that’s why one would need to work out what the numbers should be before approaching a dealer.

You’ll get no argument from me that $1060/mo is a horrid price for a 540i.

Thank you, this was my whole point.

The crazy part is people have to be taking these deals right now, because the dealers seem to be making them happen.

I would have never darkened the bmw dealer’s door because I know the lease programs are so bad right now that it’s a complete waste of time to even entertain.

Fair. Since I’m about 120 days until lease end I’m back into research mode, and learning what most active folks on here already know about the current state of the market.

If you want to wait or buy time, you can find a BMW dealer to put a no deposit/refundable order with around 20 days from lease expiration and extend your current 5 series for 6 months if you wanted (don’t have to pick up the car you order). You’re 120 days out from lease end, another 180 days would put you at close to a year where you don’t have to worry about finding another lease.

I get that you were just trying to post a comically bad lease deal, but honestly 95% of the “I asked a dealer for a quote, this is what I got” stuff we see on here is just as bad these days.

Give me 20 mins and I can run down the street to my local Jeep dealer and be back with a quote that will make this look like a steal.

Being in research mode is a good place to be to be prepared. The point that we’re trying to make is that dealers have no business being involved in research mode.
