You’ve probably just had a silver car so long that you outgrew it. It is bland on a Honda or Ford, but so are most other colors. On a high-end car imo silver can look fantastic.
Take it to a carwash tomorrow or it will not be the same. Ever.
I think 5 of my last 6 cars have been black.
Love the look but they are a pain in the ass to keep clean. I hand wash 2-3 times per week during warm months and take to car wash 2-3 times per week during winter - which forces me to buff and wax in the spring to remove any swirls.
I swap leases whenever I can, but can’t stand white cars which seems to be 75% of the damn lease takeovers. So, black it is…
White and black are usually the only two base colors. Other colors are an up-charge.
So, what I understood from this very informative thread is that the more you wash your car the more swirls you get. I’ll just keep doing what I’ve been doing, thank you all
Impressive, what are your thoughts on no rinse products?
I certainly did.
Coming from a GLE, even the 40i drives like a champ. Was cruising up the NJ Turnpike in a pack of a cars (S63 coupe, GT3, and a Chrysler 300) - the Chrysler was our rabbit.
Car has every package but M Sport. They bumped the MF, but dropped the price. I don’t care how the sausage is made though, just how it tastes. I need to review the paperwork to see how they got to where they did, but the deal was as negotiated; $4.9k DAS, $699 a month tax included, MSDs. Effective is like $839, car is $86k. I think there will be some good hacks on these to close the year out, but happy to be the first under 1% on this model. By the time we were doing the paperwork it was 5pm and I had to get the GLE to Mercedes to return, so I didn’t have time to dive in, just cared about the end result.
Black Sapphire Metallic, black wheels, cognac interior. Sky lounge is awesome.
Even cooler, my oldest son is 6 and I coach his soccer team, it’s a 7-8 league, but whatever… We’re 4-0-1 (we tied the game him and me weren’t there) and played the only other undefeated team in the league today, short handed, we won 1-0. Immediately after, him me went on a long road trip. Prob irresponsible, but I let him sit in the front with me on the ride back, kid was a pig in shit, doing the gesture control for half the ride. After an 11 hour day, stopped for dinner at 10pm close to home, He had chicken fingers, 2 desserts, and like 4 coca colas. Fell asleep 5 minutes before we got home, carried him upstairs, when I put him in his bed, he says “best day ever, I love you dad.” Who would’ve thought, sitting in a car all day and getting a new one with your dad would be so fun, he’s right though, what a great day!
That’s the stuff that makes the work of being an adult / parent all seem worth it, man.
Memories are everything. May we be so fortunate to give our loved ones those little extras in life!
I would lease a black car if leases were a few months long other than that nooo way. Seems the majority of posters here agree that black is the worst car color to own.
I’d love to see 12 and 18 month leases offered at some point however it’s pretty well known those are the worst periods of depreciation. The 24mo hacks commonly seen here are mostly the result of deleterious incentives, toxic inventory/expert negotiation for discounts and low rates to borrow.
It definitely depends on the specific silver, and also on the vehicle.
I loved the silver on my E500.
Our RX is silver and it’s really nondescript (which fits the prosaic personality of the vehicle)
I had a silver Grand Cherokee and got tired of the color in a matter of days.
Yes, but clay bar, pre-rinse, two-bucket method, etc can really reduce that.
Congrats and post pictures of the beast!!
Just remember: Brushless carwash only and when you go through scream at the top of your lungs:
SIN CEPILLO!!!
Only have white and black. Yup I agree! You can easily see scratches in black cars but the only reason why I got it is because it is really more classy and it is great for events. When I purchased it I also told myself that I will clean it once a week and yeah I did it but after a year I got tired and I only clean it if I really need to, if the dirt is so obvious.
I have black and white and neither looks worse than the other when dirty. Far away or close up. This black/dirty thing is a myth when comparing to white. Silver does seem to hide it better but it sure does not pop as a color. My primary driver has been black for 30 years running and no regrets. Rarely wash them too.
I’ve had 3 black cars before, never a black SUV. It’s a challenge to keep them clean, especially in the Northeast with road salt from Nov to Feb. But I’m very conscious of my cars, usually I’m the guy cleaning the wheels on the first 40 degree day in January. Wife has a black SUV, while its hard to keep cleaner than my SUV, she doesn’t care and from more than 10 ft away the difference in almost unnoticeable to 95% of people.
PS-while a cop might ream you out for a kid in the front I once read a story about a Flyers player Danny Briere let his kid sit in the front of his Range on a long trip. Late night a truck rear ended them, and the kid walked away in the front where if he sat in the back where he was “supposed” to be it might have been a different ending. Sometimes father knows best!
Of course you wash them when they are covered in salt. Any color, and not only because they don’t look good.
As a 1st time black vehicle owner, I would say you must enjoy the challenge of keeping it clean. But man, once it’s clean it looks super sleek and wet (lol). Also, the key to avoiding scratches and swirl marks is using high quality microfiber towels. DO NOT use cheap towels from big box stores and ONLY use touch less car washes. I use the Rag Company Spectrum 420 towels + Chemical Guys ECOSmart Waterless Wash/Wax spray as a lubricant for drying. I have yet to see a swirl mark or scratch!! Good luck!
