Weirdest things said by dealers "You're still important to us."

Was that GSM G.H?

I think the same thing can unfortunately be said about the lease hacker crowd

Is that Anne Marie? I bought a car from them about 7 years ago, and they were good then. Their extremely long-tenured salesperson who was really good passed away in 2019. I think heā€™s still on their website though.

RD. He went to Competition MB where he was also great and I got my aunt a GLS from him. Now heā€™s at Audi.

Ahhh. Nice guy. I remember his tenure. I got deals there at the time he was there. Now youā€™re fortunate to pay sticker, and this is coming from someone who really likes a lot of the people there.

Have you dealt with him at Audi at all?

I havenā€™t only because no one I know has any interest in Audi lol. But I am sure that heā€™s just as good there as he was at BMW and MB.

I also heard that Rallye Group went downhill in terms of deals after a leadership change at the top.

That particular dealer IIRC went down to $117k and said only $10k rebates stack. Which is wrong.

This was a fun exchange from Feb of 2021, when my local VW dealer in northern NJ (who I had bought three cars from in the past) kept playing games and wanted me ā€œto come inā€ when I had a competitive quote from Valenti VW in CT (itā€™s a coincidence that the GM from this dealer shares the same last name as the dealer in CT). This was just before things went nuts, but some places were quoting me well over $500 a month for a Tiguan SEL 4-Motion. I ended up with $415 for 39 months with a true $0 DAS.

So this was me following the advice you read about so often: test drive the car, make sure you know what you want, get a realistic quote, and donā€™t step back into a dealer until itā€™s time to sign and pick up the car. But, you need the dealer to play ball as well!

I asked finance guy to send the deal sheet that reflects the sell price so I could secure CU finance over lease. Response:

I know dealers can get frustrated with what pitiful customers we can be, but some of their responses seem particularly designed to drive away business and/or to be insulting.

Wait a minute. Your text exchange at Jack Daniels in NJ was with someone with the last name Valenti. And you wound up getting the car in CT at Valenti VW. Lmao, thatā€™s like a form of poetic justice

All of the Jack Daniels dealerships in NNJ are a complete waste of time. Every last one of them. Quoted $800 with inceptions for a basic Q5 after 2 hours. My kids destroyed their showroom R8 while they made us wait. (That poor poor R8).

Long story short, I only go to them for test drives and I ended up with an Sq5 at $600

I donā€™t understand how some of those dealers (namely Hemet) get any positive reviews at all with the add ons.

I donā€™t understand why car sales people, especially in management, canā€™t string sentences together or at least have a semblance of spelling. Chapman was the worst with this in my experience - itā€™s amazing they can pull it together enough to get contracts done.

Youā€™re vastly underestimating how many consumers do zero research before making a giant purchase (or lease).

Itā€™s not about the add ons or the money. Itā€™s about how the customer Feels. You get positive reviews making people happy, and negative reviews when you piss people off.

I know many people who will walk into a dealership and walk out with a car. They will spend 10ā€™s of thousands of dollars on a whim. If they feel taken care of they leave good reviews. My fiancĆ©e was at a dealer yesterday and they had a full on Starbucks inside. She got two ā€œfreeā€ drinks while she was there. Iā€™m a hackr. Iā€™d take $12 off the selling price instead.

Typo galore for sure that one.

Iā€™m not a huge fan of working with most dealers but I will note that I imagine that if our consumer ratio of good dealer to asshole dealer is 1/100, they see real genuine customers to asshole customers at 1/1,000 :person_shrugging:
