Weirdest things said by dealers "You're still important to us."

Judging by the grammar and spelling alone, I don’t doubt this person has been selling cars for 20 years.

Math What GIF by Riki Barker

this is practically word for word more than one conversation i’ve had with a dealer here in so fla. then when you put your thingie on the table at the end its always crickets. i even bet one of these people $100 after meeting him and the GM in person and went back to the dealership when i knew they were there. the GM tried to welsh on the bet and sneak out the back of the dealership by sending one of his flunkies to the front to distract me. it almost turned into a scene from the Sopranos. over a measly $100 bet. bunch of bums, the lot of em.

i always forget about that colorful language rule. this is a little TOO prudish for my particular tastes (thingie?), but when in rome and all that.

I was 18 Test driving a z06
And the sales manager told me to go get my parents for more money because I couldn’t afford it
I was negotiating the price before they ran my credit :joy::joy::joy:

Yeah, that was pretty funny when I saw that. All I can say is Valenti VW in CT was super easy to work with, and what they quoted me over a few minutes via email was exactly what I signed on when I arrived to take delivery of the car.

I guess I followed your advice…picked up a '23 ID.4 from Endeavor Auto through LH, but I test drove a '22 RWD at Jack Daniels in September when I had some free time. Didn’t even bother talking numbers, but I knew the ID.4 was a promising prospect.

You know, I could forgive the poor grammar, not a big deal. What bothered me the most was the GM’s assumption that I either wasn’t serious about buying, or that I was pulling numbers out of my ass. That left a bad taste in my mouth. I would’ve preferred not driving 1.5 hours to CT, but a Saturday afternoon was worth my time to save close to $150 a month and not give my business to a condescending jerk.

I offered $4k below sticker (7%ish) and was told “it has to make sense for the both of us.”

I can see why that was confusing lol edited

Had a bmw dealer once laugh at me for bringing a TI86 calculator to negotiate in person. Broke down the deal to a old school dealer in front of him. He laughed at me and said your calculator is advanced but your too young to understand how calculate a lease. I was 17 and helped my family lease a e46 3 series. My response was to him my calculator works fine you have no idea how to do math. Go to your manager and come back with response who is right. He went to the gm and came back with his head down, saying I guess your fancy calculator can do the correct math.

This was a guy in car business for over 30 years.

After a while most car salesman become so full of themselves. You prove them wrong it hurts their ego

This happened to me recently while trying to find a CA Subaru dealer who would do more than $5k off. Although credit to be given, this dealer very cordially accused me of lying.

This didn’t happen to me, but couple months ago, someone posted here my personal favorite quote: “It’s okay to pay a little extra to have good relationship with a dealer”
