Hello, I’m looking to sell my leased xc60 on vroom, looks like i’ll be losing about 500, but I need a bigger car for the kids. Anyways, when I leased it I maxed out the MSD’s for it, how would I get it back after I sell the car to vroom? Do they just send a check or would I have to let vroom know about my MSD to get a check from them?
It depends… is the payoff quote hypothetically after MSD have been applied to the payoff, thus lowering the payoff?
In that case there is nothing to get back.
If not, then I don’t see how Vroom has anything to do with it. MSD should come back from the lessor (VCFS) directly to you.
There is no mention of the MSD being applied into the payoff amount in the Volvo financial site, but thank you for bringing that up. I will call them to see if that payoff amount is with the MSD included.
If you have not already called VCFS and asked for the 3rd party payoff that returns your MSDs to you, the number may surprise you.
The payoff on the website is for you to purchase the car, and includes them keeping your MSDs.
If that is the number you got and are working with, they should send you a check for MSDs (double-check with VCFS).
And if you haven’t looked at it yet, there is an entire thread devoted just to vroom
You are absolutely correct. I called them and they said the price on the site and the PDF is with the MSDs included.
Thank you all for your help
Just to clarify, “included” means the MSD dollars are applied to the payoff/buyout and therefore there is nothing to get back?
hmm this is exactly the opposite of what the phone rep told me. I will call again, thanks so much for sharing your experience.
That is what the phone rep told me, but it seems like @Phat had a different experience. I’m going to call again to verify.
Shouldn’t this PDF that you mention clear it all up?
Fluff
If you 3rd party it (vroom et al) the MSDs will come back to you.
The process of the MSD return with VCFS happens in darkness as your account is immediately closed at payoff …just wait it out a few weeks and the MSDs will arrive via USPS
@Phat i probably got a rep that wasn’t too knowledgeable about MSD’s because the rep was confident that the payoff price on the site included the MSD’s.
Will call again
Make sure you talk to the appropriate department. I think “lease end” or something like this.
And make sure you ask for the third party payoff - not the one on the website, which typically includes the MSDs…
Just wanted to close this topic. I called Volvo financial again and they told me exactly what @Phat had gone through. The payoff amount on the site does NOT include the MSDs and that the MSD’s will be mailed out 14 business days after the car has been sold. The third party payoff depends on the 3rd party dealer you’re dealing with but there is a minimal variation from the payoff amount that is on the site.
Thank you all for helping with this, just got unlucky with the volvo rep yesterday.
Glad you got this sorted out, but “I need a bigger car for the kids” always intrigues me. Did you unexpectedly have quadruplets? An XC60 isn’t huge, but it is a decent sized SUV. What are you replacing it with?
XC60 is definitely a decently sized SUV. I don’t know if my baby car seats are wider than the norm, but with 2 rear facing baby seats, there is virtually no space in the middle for our mother in law who sits there often. Also the amount the front passenger seat you need to move up is uncomfortable for my wife, who is on the taller side. We wanted the XC90, but we realized from a comfort perspective a minivan would be best… maybe the odyssey or the new sienna.
