UAW on strike starting tonight

Yeah your right multil billion dollar companies should keep all there profits and not pay workers any of it . CEO salaries have increased by millions while workers have stayed the same . Great idea :bulb:

Don’t pay the ceo and he will go somewhere with his skill set that will. Can the same be said about the auto worker?

Also the bipartisan congress made the tax code. Can’t blame a corporation for paying as little as possible. Their responsibility is the shareholders, of which the workers are part of.

As a free man, I adapt when that happens and learn new skills. I don’t rely on my govt or anyone else to support me.

Cherry picking facts is also not helpful.

I have no idea whether GM paid taxes or not, but, even w/o any taxes to pay, they presumably have overhead.

Why not? China bought more GM cars in 2017 than did Americans.

Coal miners and farmers should be more like you, why the heck are we still bailing out coal industry?

100% with you on that…hence I advocate for a system where both coexist and control each other. The socialism fear mongering by some is getting to pathetic levels. I guess some have been punished by so long they are afraid to actually change their lives for the better.

Man European countries with low military budgets, high taxes, “everybody” living in apartments, small cars, freedom of speech that is being evaporated, and a two tiered health system (ones with money go private). Nah man I prefer this versus over there. We have plenty wrong but as someone that has family all over Europe this is one of the best countries to be in.

Want to change health care here? Create doctors with low loans, have tort reform, and increase R&D. Increase supply and prices will self correct. Have insurance companies compete accross state lines. And yes, stop immigration. We bring 1.1 million legally every year. How many more can we take before we drown. We take care of our own first then we can adjust for everyone else.

Huh? Did I say something that alluded to me being a proponent of big government. I agree, end all subsidies…

Get off your high horse. How many cars would you broker without the help of this forum? I suspect a lot less. We all rely on one another to a certain degree, whether or not your ego will allow you to admit the same. A government should be designed to provide a fair and level playing field and to give people a shot in life. When blue collar workers have a higher effective marginal tax rate than a multi-billion dollar corporation, that’s just plain wrong.

And that is wrong but nobody did anything about it. Democrats or Republicans. Again, change the tax code but not fault of a corporation but our legislature. Still you want a tax code different from other countries? If i incur losses i can subtract them every year or account for it towards my gains so it sounds like a level playing field.

Except that’s not what our government was designed to do. So there’s that. Also this forum is capitalistic to the core. I guess you would prefer fixed pricing to level the playing field? As if that is a better system to keep corporations in check, price fixing. We live in a global economy. If our tax policies aren’t favorable then the corporation will leave. It’s happened many times. Perhaps we should look at taxation as a whole. That’s the root of the problem, allowing banks and govt to grow unchecked. Getting rid of the irs, and the federal reserve is a good start. But then how would we fund all these glorious social programs that seem to be working so well here.

I’m thinking the same way we funded the bailout of the financial sector?

How can you possibly not see that the corporations have all the law making powers? With the current campaign donation system it really makes no difference who is in power as they are all paid for and will stay in line.

You’re right. Let us get rid of the IRS… the federal reserve… to hell with taxes of any kind. I don’t really need any of the streets or highways I drove on today. Police and fire protection for my family? Eh, we will figure it out. Public schools for my kids? My wife can stay home all day and bake cookies while home schooling them. I think you’re on to something. Who needs all this “social” stuff?!

Can we not devolve into straw man arguments? That’s not even close to what Jim said or insinuated.

Public schools were around a long time before the Fed and the IRS. Which, by the way, required a constitutional amendment to even be constitutional.

Huh. This isn’t where I parked my car.

Sorry gasoline tax pays for the roads, riddled with potholes. School taxes pay for schools, and they’re failing. Property taxes pay for the police and firefighters.

The taxes you pay to the irs directly funds the interest paid on the national debt forced on us by the federal reserve along with some left over for the bloated military industrial complex.

I was suggesting things that can actually change the current system. Not toting the narrative that props up this false left right paradigm we have now. What’s the definition of insanity again? Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results…
