Tesla Supercharging - Experiences & Discussion

Summer Mcdonalds GIF by McDonald's Nederland

You’re taking one persons word for it on the internet? LOL Come on.. at least google it and do your own research.

Fair enough my friend.

Just a wild guess here, but I am pretty sure if the BMW and Audi approved OEM/Lectron adapter burns your car to the ground they will cover it.

Pretty hard for them to duck out on that other than subrogation/indemnity on the backend against Lectron when they supply it as OEM or as approved by them.

BMW has also approved the Tesla magic dock.

This.

Charge port damage caused by a plug is not covered under warranty.

They don’t cover it when it happens without an adapter, why would they cover it with an adapter?

Adapter lock-in is pure marketing. Are you really going to buy a new adapter for every brand EV you own?

BMW sent out a nice legal notice to all us owners last year which strongly encouraged using BMW certified adapters.

I see there are $50 no-name NACS-CCS adapters on Amazon, which I sure will work just fine 99% of the time. But I’m going to stick with the BMW approved $175 Lectron Vortex Plus just for the extra piece of mind of the UL certification which gets me to 99.9% level of confidence!!

“Without an adapter” is a totally different situation where the third-party charger and charge cable is the only thing interfacing with the car via the charge port.

When using the OEM approved and/or supplied adapter you are telling me that is the same situation as no adapter above and BMW or Audi will not cover an issue when their OEM approved and/or supplied adapter is used and fails?

You need a better lawyer.

First successful charge of the BMW at this NACS site. Using one of my Ford adapters this session.

How long did it take to charge?

I took 54kwh (30% to 80%) in 30 minutes. The site was full, and my battery was not fully preconditioned so the speed was a bit below average. I did complete the OTA update before trying to charge, but I started the charge from the Tesla app, to get my membership rates.

How much per KW and does costing fluctuate depending on location?

Tesla cost per kWh is variable by site, time of day, membership status and congestion fees. Here is the membership rate spread for my local site ($0.31 to $0.43 + $0.50/min)

Wow so 30min x .50c - $15 Plus $21.06 in kwh charges for a total of $36.06
Does that make sense? Seems really high, but then again, I have no clue what taking advantage of a supercharger entails.

There was no congestion fee at the time I charged. I paid $0.375 per kWh and my total was $21. About $10 cheaper than what EA would have charged.

That makes more sense. Thank you for the info. Much to learn lol.

Wait in an EA line and you see why Tesla superchargers are appealing.
