You’re just… using a charger. As long as it fits your car or your adapter that’s all there is to it.

I know, what I was talking about what pricing and how it’s calculated. I know now.

The Tesla chargers 2 miles from my house have been .29kWh since they were installed maybe 18 months ago. Checked this morning because I was gonna go over and charge, and they’re now .57kWh LOL That killed me ever charging locally.

If you go in the off-peak hours 10pm-8am it’s probably $0.31 kWh

Perhaps, but it’s been .29 during the day for a long time. I’d go there during lunch break and charge it occasionally.

Charged the BMW IX at multiple Tesla superchargers during a recent road trip. Would routinely start around 35% SOC with sufficient preheating and pull 170 to 180 kwh. Charge rate would be OK until 50% SOC, where it dropped to only 100 kwh, then it would drop further every 10% SOC. I think the Tesla stations are playing with the charge curve to get you to leave at 60% SOC.

I remember the original crossover point (where kWh is same as battery%) being ~80%,

Maybe the curve has been nerfed a touch?

Is the IX at 400 or 800V? My Sierra won’t get max charge at SCs since it is 800V vs 400 from SC3 archtecture.

The iX is 400V. 800V cars will certainly charge slower at Tesla SuperChargers, but at least they are available as backup options in case of emergency.

Road trip in the EQS this time, stopped at two different Tesla sites, versus last road trip with BMW IX. Plug performance was much better, pulling 130 kwh all the way to 70%+ and still over 100 kwh at 80%. I took 100 kw total, in 40 mins between, two stops today. Same time spent in the IX only took 76 kw.

Which one is better ride for roadtrip? Eqs or iX?

As an owner of both, I would say EQS is superior for long-distance trips. What the BMW doesn’t tell you is that they will throttle DC charging after a second charging session within the 24-hour period. This makes it quite painful to travel over 400 miles. Instead of 200kW charging speed, the best you would see is 150kWish. Mercedes doesn’t have that limitation and the charging curve is superior. The iX is much more fun car to drive though.

In my experience the throttling began when you charged over 300kWh DCFC inside a 24hr period without any AC charging sessions to break it up.

A not so subtle way of telling you to enjoy the journey. :face_with_tongue:

My EQS has 60k miles and my IX has 30K miles and neither of batteries seem to perform as well as they used to. The IX is lucky to get 200 miles on a 90% charge, when it used to be 300 miles, and the EQS has been hovering around 2.0 m/kw consumption when it used to be closer to 3. Yes, it’s wicked cold right now, but I’ve operated these vehicles similarly for the past 2 winters without this kind of loss.

For road tripping I find the EQS superior in almost every way. The IX seats are the biggest letdown, basically feel like a park bench and the massager is unimpressive. The only IX advantage is BMW DAPP is true hands-free and thus superior to MB’s antiquated system. Both vehicles go back in Sept…

I didn’t experience this on a road trip from Atlanta to Minneapolis mad back last fall. But I did try to find hotels with chargers, maybe that helped.

Slightly OT….but what is your overall assessment of the EQS? I’m quite underwhelmed with any EV leases available right now so I’m halfway considering buying a used EQS. The original sticker price might have been funny money, not sure anyone paid that, but it seems a lot of luxury car for <$40k.
