Tesla Supercharging - Experiences & Discussion

I read somewhere BMW will be creating their own adapter for release sometime 2026. Please let me know which of your adapters work as I assume I need the same.

EDIT:

Per Google:

BMW drivers with current EVs (i4, iX, i5, i7) can use Tesla Superchargers by plugging a NACS-to-CCS1 adapter into their car’s charging port, then connecting the Supercharger’s cable, with charging initiated via the Tesla or My BMW app. BMW plans to release its own official adapter in mid-2026, but recommends third-party options like Lectron’s Vortex Plus , which is BMW-approved and UL-certified for safety (UL 2252). Users can also utilize Superchargers with Tesla’s built-in Magic Dock (no adapter needed) or start sessions via the app, with billing through Shell Recharge in the My BMW app.

I would personally avoid the Lectron. They have a bad reputation for becoming unlatched while in the charge port and becoming warm to the point of potentially starting a fire. If you want to go 3rd party, have had no problems with my A2Z adapter, but you can find a Ford adapter on a forum for $100.

Thanks for the heads up. You saved me a headache buying a Lectron.

charging lucid at those is a nightmare. First, the cable is too short to reach across the long lucid hood no matter how close you pull in to the charger. Second, the speed is capped at 50kW so yeah

Good point. This is why BMW specifically recommends the new Lectron WITH the locking mechanism. It’s in the official BMW documentation now. They’ve only officially approved this 3rd party adapter so far: Lectron Vortex Plus for BMW | Charge at Tesla Superchargers Safely — Lectron EV

My IX got the OTA software upgrade that allows charging at Tesla Superchargers two days ago.

Audi chose Lectron for their OEM adapter as well.

I have the adapter that Genesis shipped for free but haven’t tested it yet.

Any reason why it shouldn’t work on my Sierra EV?

Be careful of Chinese adapters that have no UL certification. If you weld your DC pins it won’t be covered by warranty and its not cheap to replace a charging port. While I don’t think you need to use only the brand recommended by BMW, I would stick with a reputable US manufacturer with transparent UL listings.

Good points here. What do you suggest?

This is the BMW officially approved adapter.

It’s the only one you are allowed to use right now.

z0lt says the Lectron may not be the best bet.

Lectron has sold too many EV charging products with thermal issues over the years for me to ever consider one, even if the new stuff is better.

Any specific model A2Z? I’m seeing several.

There’s lots of different types of Lectron adapters. This new one from Lectron has a lock mechanism to prevent accidental arching and is UL certified. That’s why it’s so expensive.

BMW USA has ONLY approved that one I linked to. You’ll see it listed in all of the official BMW documentation that has come out in the last week. So for proper warranty coverage I’d recommend it.
