Tesla Supercharging - Experiences & Discussion

Example my wifes eqe can charge at this superstation

When Ford was first given access, I was not successful charging the BMW via the Ford app at this same Tesla S/C. I had not tried starting a charge for unapproved EV w/ the Tesla app until the other day. Hard to say if something changed, or if the Tesla app would always start a charge for any EV. MB is supposed to get access starting 2/1 – maybe they just opened it up early. But… I know of some Kia EV9 owners who have been able to exploit this as well (how I learned about it).

Last week was my first time when i got my adapter, i will confirm again next time i use my wifes car this weekend. I had her info in the app

Was pulling only 52 kwh at the free EA plug, moved to Tesla SC at same shared location, now pulling 145 but paying $0.36 - Worth it??

Lol cant beat that, whats the most you get on eqs, i imagine its more than eqe speed?

The out of spec guys say that Tesla chargers start off strong but drop off quickly because the cables are tin and not cooled, true?

V3, V4 cables are water cooled.

I noticed this morning driving by, Honda is now able to charge at the super stations

It’s now official 325kw at V4 stalls
But, they are not V4 cabinets so still limited to 500 volts
Only cybertruck could take advantage as they boost the amps to over 800 for a short period

Glad you posted this as I received the same update yesterday. I was looking into this, and it seems I would need an adapter to be able to use the Tesla SC? Do you know which would be best? And if at all necessary or can I use the current Tesla SC with no adapter in the BMW?

BMW’s have been able to use new SC for a while now. This seems more like an app/billing update than anything else.

@NELeasingNYC the Tesla app can tell you which SC can charge a non-Tesla without an adapter. YMMV but much of the northeast there’s so many new SC as well as other CCS networks that I’ve never needed an adapter

Excellent, thank you for the valuable information. Much appreciated.

This was only the case with magicdock equipped sites and you had to toggle as another make to get the app to allow you to use.

So what changed?

Not all V3 superchargers have magicdock.

The big news is that BMW is now listed as authorized by Tesla for NACS only sites. This just changed over the past 48 hours. From the Tesla app:

And from Tesla website https://www.tesla.com/support/charging/supercharging-other-evs

Most Tesla SC I use are still NACS only.

This had stopped working for me, worked at one point awhile ago.

You will need to bring your own adapter. I have 2 Ford adapters and 1 A2Z adapter, will try both tonight. I am sure BMW language will say you must buy the adapter from BMW.
