You can try to push GMTV to beat Carvana as well. They usually have some wiggle room.
I personally would recommend CarMax. Much easier process. When you are there they will contact your lender and verify your payoff and have you sign documents and give you a check. I had a great experience with them. They have been in the used car business for a long time and know what they are doing.
I sold to Carvana and it was a headache. Communication was very poor and it was difficult to get in touch with someone. The process took a few weeks.
If you are satisfied with the CarMax offer than do it for your sanity.
My CarMax offer was ~$2000 lower than the others unfortunately
When I mentioned the offer from Carvana, the GMTV agent replied with them being in Chapter 7 bankruptcy and their BBB report
Contrarian point here, I got my offer from carvana, accepted it, uploaded docs, they reviewed them which took a few days, then i elected to drop it off to nearest location. Dropped it off, appointment took not even 10 mins and I was done
So than you are not “satisfied” with the CarMax offer because they are $2000 lower. I thought you were prioritizing by “ease of process”?
So turned out I was on Carfax and not CarMax.
Just requested an offer for CARMAX, and theirs is now the highest so I’ll be moving forward with them. Silly mistake
And I’d say that’s one knock I have on GMTV. They openly slander Carvana, implying that checks wouldn’t clear, and they are NOT in bankruptcy and I’ve sold two cars to and had a great experience.
But congrats on the sale!
My experience was the opposite. It was also back during the used car frenzy so they were most likely short staffed. Everything was done by text. It was impossible to get anyone on the phone. Things may have changed. It also depends on who is assigned to your deal.
If the offers are similar I would always go with CarMax over an online buyer.
Carfax does not buy cars. I believe they give you a cash offer and connect you with some local dealerships who may or may not honor the offer.
i sold a tesla to give me the vin about a month ago it was the best and easiest car selling experience i ever had. they are truly an amazing company!
I sold Nissan Leaf to GMTV two weeks ago.
They gave the highest offer. Very easy transactions.
GMTV offered a good price for my leased Mercedes but I thought Mercedes made it so third parties can’t purchase it? Anyone have info on that?
I had a pretty bad experience with GMTV. I was selling a BMW X3M and got a bunch of offers in the $52-53 range but I wanted 55. I asked GMTV for a quote and they offered 46k. I said no thanks and that the offer wasn’t competitive. They texted me a few days later and said if I sent them more pics they could raise their offer. I went and took some pics and they sent me their new offer of…44k. So basically “we want to waste your time”.
I sold it to Autonation a few days later for 54.5k. 10k+ difference…
Did they hand you a check on the spot?
I’ve sold to GMTV a few times. Each time their check gets held by my bank for an extended delay. This time it was held for 7 days. They have already resold my vehicle at auction and my check hasn’t cleared yet. Does anybody else have these problems?
This was my experience in December 2022 when I sold my TRX. I had to wait 6 business days for the check to clear in my account, but it was my credit union’s policy. Any check over $5k has a 6 day hold.
And is it true that you have to cash the check at a Bank of America?
Basically I have an agreement to sell to a dealer tomorrow, who will have a check for me on the spot. GMTV finally came to their senses and have increased their offer…to actually $500 more than the dealer. I’ve never sold to them, and $500 isn’t really that much to turn things into a hassle.
But they gave you a check on the spot? When was it activated & did it have to be taken to a bank of a America?
Had no issues with my last check but I wonder if it’s an issue activating the check/timing of your deposit? Mine was sent with the fedexed docs but it wasn’t live until after pickup.
