I’ll keep you posted…
Thanks man so will I
Has anyone here attempted to sell an older/non-leased vehicle to Vroom?
I need to get rid of a 2010 Prius with 75,000 miles, and I’m looking for alternatives besides Carmax or lighting it on fire.
Private party is out of the question. I hate people.
My wire payment was 2 business day late (bill of lading sent back on Thursday before 1pm ET, wire didn’t come until Tuesday the following week, supposedly they need to “verify” the car)
I checked an older (2010) VW Passat with 160k on it for someone on both Vroom and Carvana. Caravan offered MUCH more (like 10x). I think Vroom was $200 and Carvana was $2000!
Thanks, probably worth at least getting a quote.
Carmax offered $7,000 (2010 Prius II with 75,000 miles).
I’ll see how Vroom stacks up.
For reference I was paid via check in 48 hours. Sent bill of lading wednesday and received payment friday. I was in communication with them via email every step of the way.
For anyone in doubt, Vroom pays the payoff less any MSD’s so the check you get from them for remainder over payoff does include your MSD’s or if upside down then those are factored in.
I was paid today via transfer. Very relieved
Happy to hear this, and happy to report the same on my end. A little more uncertainty than I’d welcomed, but just relieved it’s all over and done with. Glad it worked out for us BOTH.
I would also like to know. I have so far sold to CarMax and Shift with Toyota and Honda. I am now leasing a Kia and reading this thread. Hopefully no issues with Kia.
Was just able to sell to my Honda Civic to Shift for about $125 over payoff. Definitely beats the disposition fee. I was way under mileage at 30k at the end of a 3 year lease. I was also considering buying it, driving it for one more year, then selling it privately. But I found a good deal on a new lease and getting any payout was great.

I also got online quotes from Carvana, Vroom, and in person at Carmax. Vroom was the closest. But all of these were slightly under payoff.
It has been a week since they picked up yet they haven’t paid off my lien holder yet…anyone else with similar experience?
Seems like private selling is no longer better than selling to Carvana, Vroom, Shift, Autonation. All the offers I’ve gotten from after a week on craigslist are lower than these places and i’m selling a Honda Civic which should be an easy car to sell.
Yeah private buyers are a pain in the ass unless you’re selling an enthusiast car…then they just wanna nickel and dime you for every rock chip…

As some people have mentioned you can get an appraisal at Carmax, Carvana, Vroom, Shift, and Autonation. You still have to deal with people but just more limited unless something goes wrong.
Great news! My spouse has agreed to place an ad and deal with the random mopes who respond while I am traveling next week.
Here is my story:
After realizing that 12k miles/year is not enough for me, I decided to trade my car until it’s too late. Started shopping around and Vroom offered roughly $2000 more than Carmax, Carvana, Shift and $3200 more than local dealership.
06/04 - offer accepted
06/05 - forms completed
06/10 - DocuSign signed
06/11 - Fedex paperwork received, signed, spare key attached and sent back
06/17 - Car was picked up.
Still waiting for the payment to arrive, will update soon…
Area - SoCal.
I’m struggling to think of many cars easier to sell private party than a low mileage Toyota Prius.
Don’t leave easy money on the table
What if you have payment due during this period? Who pays for it
