Avis Orlando airport – Chevy Malibu with over 60k miles on it. Employees at Avis MCO were either apathetic or incompetent. Thinking about swapping but it would be inconvenient, and they would probably f up the billing and overcharge me somehow.
‘25 Yukon Denali from Budget at O’Hare Airport. The worst rental experience I’ve ever had, doubt I ever use them again. However, the truck was amazing and it was a great deal through Costco.
This seems to be an enduring part of the personality. I made a similar observation about a 2014 when I was shopping a couple of cars ago.
Now I’m in the market for [something] again, along an indefinite timeline, and I’m enduring another spousal barrage of “you really should get a 911 this time” [due to infatuation with the flat depreciation curve].
I’ve driven one or two others since the observation above, but I just don’t want something that drives like this.
Low expectations but the Sentra was okay. Decent interior and the powertrain handled the Black Hills/Rushmore area with little complaint and great mpg.
Hyundai i10, has the funky automatic that’s really a manual shifted by the car. Also has the classic euro power windows in the front, roll up in the back. Hertz rental in Iceland
Got this POS with 10k miles from Avis at Boston Seaport. It looked like it wasn’t washed since it spent the winter in MI (I made them wash it, which didn’t help much). They had a KIA, an XC60 and couple of others in the garage, but the guy said they were on “recalls” and I could wait 3 hours for a RAV4. Exchanged it at Portland ME airport the next day for a very nice 25 Forester with 4,8xx miles.
Booked a full size to drive from Boston back to PA after Amtrak equipment issues wrecked our return plans. After the first 3 things they tried to put me in were due for oil changes I ended up in this Jeep Grand Cherokee 6 seater with the E fuel light on. It was fine but I can’t believe there are people that get these as a minivan replacement.
And pure ICE vehicles are really annoying to drive.
Not sure if this counts as a rental car, but included with my hotel room, I received free unlimited use of an electric smart car with a whopping 100 KM of range. It’s amazing how base spec some of these European cars are, this thing had no back up camera.
Loaner (through enterprise) while my EQS is in for service for a failing 12V battery (apparently a common problem with EQs).
Don’t see the appeal in these. The 2.0 turbo is a DOG and interior feels pretty low rent. It’s very small inside and has so many blind spots. But people like them for the image perhaps? Shrug.
