I have President’s Circle through AMEX, but still Hertz direct rates suck. I tried autoslash once. Filled all the info and never got any offers from them. Not sure what I did wrong lol
I just status matched with National to Exec Elite. Haven’t used them yet and I am sure their rates are higher, but I think their cars are better? That’s what I read at least.
Yeah, I status matched Sixt, National, Avis, Hertz. No idea which one is the best bang for the money since they are all over $100/day. I think Sixt has the best cars - German engineering lol
Try it again it’s pretty simple and have yet to beat their rates for non pre paid res (or free to cancel up to 24 hours, specified on rate page)
National has the best service, hands down.
If you have Exec Elite, they will usually do their best to get whatever car you ask them. More than once they got me Suburbans even though I only paid for a midsize sedan.
Unless other options are significantly lower, I always rent from them.
Is Costco significantly cheaper than booking directly with a company code? I usually use my company’s code for leisure travel and it usually is quite cheaper than the standard rate (+9 drivers and LDW).
Checked a (supposedly) busy period at National for Boston Logan from Jul 3rd to Jul 6th I’m getting $189.50 total (63/day). Does Costco gets cheaper than that?
I’m using costco because it allows me to cancel it if I find it cheaper later.
Costco is not cheaper than that as of today. That’s actually a great rate, considering National is one of the pricier companies. But in general, Costco does offer very competitive rates, with the added perk of not having to prepay. Hertz PC with Amex Plat code also been very good lately. Just can’t be picky with the car selection, which I am. The customer service with Hertz at the counter generally leaves a lot to be desired though.
Booking through National also allows you to cancel at any time without penalty.
I may or may no have even heard of a strategy that consists of creating 2 parallel bookings, one for the category you actually want (eg a convertible) and one for the standard sedan.
When you get there, you pick the car you want (the convertible in this example) and immediately cancel the more expensive reservation and checkout with the standard sedan reservation.
You create 2 bookings to hold the car you want, not to check out with the cheaper reservation. Highly likelihood that the gate agents will change your reservation at the gate to the vehicle you are in if the vehicle was not taken off the aisle.
Example - 2 reservations and wanting minivan. Book mid/full size and see if there is a minivan on the aisle. You can cancel the minivan reservation and pay midsize. If there is no minivan on the aisle, you check out with the minivan reservation since National is holding those vehicles specially for those reservations.
I have seen cheaper direct with a code, but always book with Costco first, reserve and then look at the other methods.
9/10 Costco is as cheap or cheaper. They also make pretty much anything right when things go wrong.
I’ll start checking it out.
Renter, beware: The next time you return a rental car to an airport, a new inspector might be checking the vehicle over—and you can bet that no ding or scratch will go unnoticed. Hertz has teamed up with tech startup UVeye to install AI-assisted vehicle scanners at major airports across the US, claiming the system will “enhance the frequency, accuracy, and efficiency” of its vehicle maintenance. We think the true goal for the rental giant is to hold customers accountable for damage that might otherwise go unnoticed in a manual inspection. It’s telling that these AI inspectors are rolling out at busy airport locations where, historically, checks weren’t always as thorough.
“AI-assisted” is a simple license plate recognition?
Would be to good to be true. They don’t need AI to read plates.
+1
Tons of times I have had booked Full Size SUV and mid size at national
I was fully ready to pay Full Size rates if nothing big was in exec aisle
At checkout they always just charge to the cheapest reservation.
I’m EE with national and this only happens at airports
Not usable with any corp codes
It is, I think. It showed me my corp code once you link them.
