This entire discussion has taken an interesting turn. But, I also disagree with you on the above point. The injured woman suffered 3rd degree burns over something like 15% of her body – including her genitals – after McDonalds repeatedly had been warned the coffee was dangerously hot. She had never sued before.

I’m very aware of what 3rd degree burns look like, seems like you guys just don’t see enough stupid behavior and how people get hurt because of incompetence. Work a rotation or residency in the emergency room and see how quickly your opinion changes.
I just looked for optimal coffee temp, showed the brewing temp I guess, I see serving temp as anywhere from 150-185. 190 was extreme I guess but even if it was 185 degrees the amount of burns wouldn’t have been significantly reduced.
