what makes you say that? the interior seems to be an upgrade on the previous gen. i owned a 17 and the infotainment and seats were lacking.
Ok, free car washes for life then! Haha. I’m just saying better to get something then nothing if you’re paying a markup. But it is gimmicky so that’s why my main Toyota dealer doesn’t do it. They’re just upfront about the adm.
The new thing I’m seeing is dealers using market value on their website, and then discounting $1-2k. Making it look like you’re getting a discount but it’s really still above msrp. Buyer beware always!
Whoever though putting cloth on the console and arm rests needs some doc looking at, pickup feels much slower and jilted then previous although numbers claim that not and I’m not sure I can believe them as they extended the cab but kept same motor. Dash is mighty confusing to read etc…
interesting. the 17 had cloth on the console and arm rests as well so that doesn’t surprise me. haven’t driven the car so can’t comment but the 1.6t on that model wasn’t exactly a beast out of the gates either, so that claim doesn’t surprise me.
I do agree that along with MSRP, they should disclose the actual sales price because what if you choose to financehack instead of lease?
I think that’s what many brokers are beginning to do, tell you what the price is and what the lease terms are.
Always done that.
From what I’ve seen, you guys set the standard for transparency amongst brokers by posting the build sheet and a calculator link. Doesn’t get more clear than that!
I think it’s time to implement a requirement for brokers to advertise deals with only first month DAS. I feel like every “deal” I click on now ends up being a DAS comparable to tv ads with the lowest possible mileage and every incentive included. It feels like there’s more and more “click bait” ads here these days and that’s not what this place is about…the total opposite.
+1 to this. Although it would difficult with different taxes rates, dmv fees…
There needs to be a way to compare apples to apples without jumping through 15 hoops to get there. This isn’t rocket science, there’s only a handful of variables that can change.

Any broker should be able to cater to what you want down on a quote.
Just tell the broker you want a price with taxes and fees included. If the broker wants to waste their time by saying 3k das then have a bunch of people not realize that and walk away, that’s their problem. I find it most efficient to just quote the all in price out of the gate. If you want to put more down to lower you’re monthly that’s your choice.
3k das makes your quote look $100/mo less. So I understand the marketing behind that. As long as it’s clear then it shouldn’t be an issue
This question has been beaten over and over - there is no perfect solution. as long as you have a quote - you can ask it to be only with the first months of DAS and go from there. LH calc even has it there by default.
Look at the government that introduced all new “better” forms and disclosures post 2008 meltdown in light of “banker didn’t explain to me what I was signing” - it didn’t improve much as far as I can people’s understanding of home buying.
Same thing with cars and leasing. Each state operates differently (dealership’s and buyer’s). What LH forum, calc and brokers offer upfront - you already ahead of 95% of buyers by a mile.
Make an extra step to learn what you are actually getting and don’t be shy to ask as many questions as possible BEFORE singing.
But in short - in 1-year people will be complaining that brokers need to list all fees and surcharges going into or needs to do this or that…
The issue is that banks have different fees as do states. So I always try to advertise my pricing without tax tags fees for that reason. The base price is the same for everyone and then changes once they tell me their zip code. But I also don’t assume they want to put 3k down etc. Doing so is 100% a marketing gimmick to make pricing appear cheaper.
I’m out of my milieu on this, but approaching from a customer standpoint, I’m less concerned about good deal/bad deal being weeded out of Marketplace, as much as I’d like to see more consistency with presentation…IOW setting expectations. This appears to me to be the main gripe in most of the posts in this thread. I think the LH Calculator offers the best solution to normalize the numbers across offers, and I would encourage brokers to offer a properly built calc for their deals, with those ‘up fronts’, etc. clearly displayed in the breakdowns section. This would still allow for the individual creativity each broker desires for their presentation, but gives the user a meat and potatoes expectation to use/compare during their own due diligence.
It’s very difficult to do that. We pull cars from different dealers with different discounts/fees. Even trims have different discounts now from my dealers. I try to only advertise my best deals, all the rest I just provide an individualized quote for the buyers.
Or when advertising I’ll just say approx 500/mo with tax tags fees included for most states. Even though a NC quote can be $75-100/mo less then a Texas quote.
Do you think the LH Calc could be changed to accommodate these types of differences?
I couldn’t see how when half the time I’m not even up to date on all the discounts for every trim of every model I offer. I just trust my dealer to want to sell the car and offer his best price from the start.
Trust me it’s in no consumers advantage to have straight across the board msrp quotes. And that’s the only way I could possibly do it with the calculators.
Then there’s the issue that some need usbank, ally or Tfs which changes all the inputs. It’s a headache and inventory/pricing is changing too fast to be on top of it and quote 30+people a day.
Understood! Just trying to brainstorm some normalization, without reinventing the wheel. For us reg’s, we know who does what for brand X, but I can see new users getting frustrated poring through Marketplace.
Yep agreed. That’s why I try to generalize and just say the price with tax tags fees inc. I base that on an average 7% tax on the payment which seems to peg my deals pretty accurate for all states.
Of course I get nyers complaining about a 515 payment vs my advertised 500/mo constantly. Just can’t make those nyers happy, I try to lighten the mood and say they should be used to the higher taxes and fees by now ![]()
These people pay to be on this site and I don’t. So I can’t really throw stones, but I feel like this kind of thing goes against the ethos of this site. imo DAS should be front and center when advertising a monthly price. Needing to drill into the calculator is the equivalent of reading the fine print of a dealer ad.
All of their deals are the same, with effective monthlys 150-200 higher than the initially advertised monthly.
We post calculators on our custom order programs and lease specials for everyone to see and configure to their liking however some of our dealers do require first, reg, and sometimes shipping upfront on a deal so we do try to land on a DAS that is typical for the vehicle.
It’s not always easy to land on a default that everybody is happy with but we do try to make it as transparent as possible.
