For a passenger vehicle you take 85% of MSRP x 2.1% for the first year, 1.5% for the second year, and so on.
Light truck vehicles = 75% of MSRP
It’s a frustrating one for sure that this is obv one of the ways in which CO chooses to get their money.

How good are the recent dealer discounts on the 23’ Rubicons before incentives?
I saw a broker offering 6.75%. I’m assuming the 10% w/ affiliate Gupton days are long gone?
If so, what should I realistically aim for on a 68k MSRP unit?
OR
Is there even a point in giving the dealer a breakdown? Should I just say $400/mo with inceptions due at signing and see what they offer?
You dont need to give the dealer a breakdown, butnyou want to have done the breakdown so you know how much to offer.
Personally, Ive been telling them the total incentives I’m referencing and the monthly I’m trying to get to. So I’ll say something like I see $12,500 in incentives (including a TDM) and I’m looking to pay $xxx/month with $0 DAS.
I think it eliminates some back and forth and isn’t so specific that they think you’re impossible to work with.
Got you! Yeah, I ran the numbers for NJ.
This is the problem; specially with Jeep dealers. Some of them are not even open to a conversation if Im approaching with numbers.
What’s the deal with 2024 units? Shouldn’t these guys be more willing to get rid of the remaining 23s?
I got pretty close to that on the payment for my most recent Rubi deals but they were base builds 61-63k sticker at 6-8% off invoice (add 1-2% for discount off sticker)
Seems like the typical dealer has relied on the generous incentives on these as being enough but you can certainly work a good deal.
Dealer reached out to me on an internet inquiry.
Conversation:
Me: Hi, thank you for reaching out! I was hoping I can get pricing on stock no: xxxxxx.
Internet sales/sales rep: We don’t discount our cars, but there’s a 2000 trade in incentive factored in.
Me: would you be able to find out if your management would be open to conversation? I want to be at about 10% before incentives.
Rep: These are brand new 2023 units, why do you expect such a large discount?
Me: ignores questions; politely asks to check with management
Rep: my manager said absolutely not and we’re adding 2000 since you’re not trading anything in. Take care
Hangs up
Am I bad at negotiating? Or have things changed since say 10 months ago (my last deal).
I’m baffled
When they said they dont discount, you should have moved on.
It’s wild how common this is today, but it’s a strategy of many of these dealers to hold the line because people still overpay.
COVID spoiled them and it’s leading to big commissions for those that fall for it and bloated lots.
But there are enough dealers aggressively discounting especially for CDJR that you’ll get to your number I’m sure. You might have to go out of state to do it though.
Is the acq fee still $595 for 24 4xe’s, more specifically a rubicon x? I have a dealer telling me they went up but don’t see it per the calculator?
I think you’re getting too caught up on these dealerships that won’t discount. The fact is that the good deals you see here aren’t going to be so easy to find. Most dealerships will not come close to what you are looking for, which is fine because it’s how they are choosing to run their business. It’s better for all involved if you are concise with what you are looking for and if they don’t want to entertain it just move on to the next one.
Check with Edmunds. Last time I checked on a 23 it was actually 795
You picked the wrong state if you wanted discounts. Most Dealers in NJ are still refusing to discount. They’re not volume dealers.
I’ve had 0, 295, 595, 795 and 1095 on deals this year. 1095 makes it clear it was marked up but it vetoed.
This was a Maryland dealer
Have you tried to go to Mitch at ourisman? He’s the best there IIRC. Sorry @harrydogyo for stealing your thunder…
All good. Mitch is off for a week though. That dude deserves a vacation.
Ccap does $1095 on some terms without a markup. I saw it straight from ccap on a 48 month term the other day.
@harrydogyo already made an introduction. Thank you guys!
Also silver lining—I’m up to 8.65% off MSRP with another dealer
