I have not once sold to Carmax/Vroom/Carvana etc. It has always been to a local dealer. In fact, I drive 1 hour one-way to sell, then uber back. But they give the best offer. Folks who are saying there is no money to be made are just being lazy, copy/pasting their VIN into Carmax.com and expecting a 5 figure equity check - those days are gone. Plenty still on the bone IMO… but does require some work. As mentioned before, once inventory really swells and auction drops, then party is over.
How are you finding these out of town dealers? Are you just cold calling them and asking for an appraisal?
I had a hard time getting any CDJR to give me an estimate or appraisal over the phonel. I have three in my area which turned into an all day Saturday event. One wouldn’t compete, the other two gave offers, one of them my second highest behind autonation.
Yeah never take them up on the “just bring it in” especially if it’s a drive
In my cases all the ones I’ve sold are still in brand new condition. I offer to send photos of proof but I’m not playing the game to bring it it.
And all it takes is looking at a few google reviews to know if they’re going to play games when you bring it in.
I posted this last night but i will say it again.
Go to google
Type in sell car near me
Fill out info on numerous dealers sites especially the dealers paying for google ads.
Wait for reply. Take remote offers and say of course you can inspect the vehicle before we close this deal.
Should take 5 or 10 minutes of your time to reach out to multiple dealers in your area online.
And the good news is after they do that you’ll start getting targeted on other platforms like Facebook for other dealers looking to buy.
I always seen big name dealers like MB, BMW, Audi, Lexus, Landrover and few large volume local dealers give you a better price. Think they have deeper pockets then the others. There used car sale guy and manager are much better when it comes to communication and response and they wont insult you with some very low ball offer. They want nice used cars on there lots that attracts customer to come to their showrooms. They don’t want to sell some beaten up old used car…
Is that the only form? What I’ve found searching the internet seems to be a bit unclear (makes sense since third party lease buy outs are not that common).
I’ve reached out to the dealer to see what their directions are. Is the selling price the price they purchased the vehicle at or the lease buyout price? As far as I can see, I shouldn’t have to pay any taxes to the DMV or anything for this but just want to be sure. Thanks!
I still am waiting on my Rubicon order from march (69k), and the dealership is quoting me end of September at the absolute earliest, but likely mid-late October. It is scheduled to be built the absolute last week of the '22s. Luckily, the dealership applied my full deposit to the first vehicle which I received last month so there is no longer a deposit on the vehicle. I’m pretty pissed off at this point because when I ordered through a broker I was quoted 12-15 weeks for delivery (looking at 26 now) and a payment increase of at least 50%, seeing as interest rates will go up, and there is no way a '22 will have the same RV/MF as a '23 when both are on the lot at the same time. What should I do? Sell my current 4xE to try to pocket the equity and forgo the car I’m waiting on? Wait for the 3 month period sell the current 4xE, and see were the cards lay? I don’t currently NEED a car.
Exactly where you are, except I kinda need the car and they still have my deposit. Going to get one of the very last '22s just in time for the RV to drop and MF to go up even more. I will take it for sure and flip it if I have to, absolutely outrageous that they can quote me 9-16 weeks and it to take double that. Don’t care about burning bridges the dealership, screw the 6mos, don’t see why I have to lose when they are the ones who could not fulfill what they offered.
That’s the only form that you as the seller are required to submit. Keep a copy of the bill of sale for your records. Otherwise, the rest goes with the buyer.
You’d like the buyout price on the form. It doesn’t really effect you though.
If you don’t do it and the vehicle goes to a 3rd party dealer out of state, expect to get a renewal notice from CA in the mail for your registration at year 1 and them to come after you relentlessly if you ignore it.
For those freaking out,
Got a 57k offer from Carvana just now on my stripper (0 options) gobi rubi. 60k sticker.
Rubi, SOT, Adv Safety, Leather, Cold Weather, Matts/Liner in white
I guess the 1st question would be: what color/options/sticker price does your 4Xe that’s on order have? There is still some meat on the bone that you should be able to flip it relatively quick and still pocket some cash. You can always say: you don’t want it when it comes in. Have you spoken to the broker?
It’s white with SOT, Adv Safety, Leather, Cold Weather, Matts/Liner, and white tire lettering at 69.8k…it’s a really heavy build that I meant to have as a keeper. The build that I received from the exact same dealer (LA) which was ordered at the same time is a Sahara with only CW and a hard top- I’m only ~30 days into this lease.
Gotcha. You could always take delivery and shop both. The SOT is awesome!
My exact build. I’m in the same boat. I ordered in March, this one was going to be my last and was going to keep it the full 36mo and go on all kind of adventures. That’s why I wanted to get the options I knew I would use. At this point, I’m thinking of taking delivery only to sell it ASAP. Like I will drive it to the nearest dealership to start looking at quotes right after taking delivery.
Was back in 2021.
The good ole days when 4xe starting msrp was $47k
Man, that seems nearly free as opposed to what we have become accustomed to (now). IIRC, the first 4xe I saw in person/test drove was around a $52k MSRP… so your number sounds reasonable.
Carvana loves Rubi’s. Got a 52.5k offer on my 59k msrp sahara today. But I have them saved at 55k from a week or 2 ago, will take that if I can’t have it beaten
