Funniest/most ridiculous dealer replies you've ever gotten

This is the crux of the issue and why people are being critical here. You think your first response wasn’t abrasive.

I have a salesperson assigned however I have auto-emails sent from me to check in. Also a BDC person may follow up as well. Every dealership is going to have their internet department set up a little differently.

It may be perceived as abrasive but there is context. Being ignored a few times after trying to solicit a quote tells me you don’t want to do business. So stop spamming me then.

I’ve definitely experienced that. However don’t you have the ability to stop the auto-emails once it’s been determined it’s a dead end lead? My argument here is, they chose to make this a dead end lead, but they still kept sending me messages to “follow up”.

And responding to incompetence with passive aggression makes you both the difficult one.

You were wasting your time the moment they didn’t respond to your first inquiry (well, I’d argue you were wasting your time the moment you asked for the dealer how much they wanted you to pay, but that’s another discussion).

Fair enough.

I’ve been looking at a cash purchase on a truck and saw an ad for a very good deal on a new Ram Warlock. Sent an email asking for an OTD quote that excludes rebates that require financing as I just want a straight cash purchase.

Response:
Goodafternoon _____,

We as a dealership do not give out the door numbers over the phone or email, we do so to protect our customers as well as ourselves from fraud. That being said we do tell our customers if they do want a rough estimate as to what the out the door price could be, to add 10-12 % of the vehicles sales price added to the initial price. Did you have some free time to come down and explore your financing options with a Sales Specialist? The price that you had seen please take a screenshot or picture and we will go ahead and honor it !

The horrible fraud of shopping their quotes. Should be illegal in all states. Don’t you feel protected?

If a salesperson doesn’t want to work a lead anymore it is put in a bucket called Manager Review. I go through it daily and either give it back with a new approach to take, kill it completely, or mark it as something left open just to receive auto emails only

While their response is ridiculous, keep in mind that you’re leaving money on the table here vs financing and then paying off the loan in a few months.

Honestly, the price they advertised there is no shopping lol. I figured it was too good to be true. If they actually honored just the discount and the basic factory rebates I’d buy it. According to Yelp it is the mandatory “optional” dealer added accessories that they want you in the door on. I asked about them and everything went quiet.

Yup, usually is. It’s like pushing boulder uphill, “but you had this advertised on your website?”, “Sir, this doesn’t include 3K in required optional permaEffinGuard wheel locks and mats, which are already bolted on and can’t be taken off” and so on. Much easier to just send them your offer and ask for yes/no reply.

While not a traditional dealer reply in the sense of this thread, just got this in an email and can’t stop laughing at the hunger-games-ness of it.

Also, really? Snow tires in May?

Seems like they’re trying to clear out inventory at the end of the season rather than hold them, hence the 20% off MSRP discount?

Not that it makes much sense to use brand new, oem wheels as your winter beater wheels.

Agreed. I just find the fact that it’s a single piece of inventory - specifically, “the first person who shows up” comment, to be amusing.

If you put this request in writing via text or email, they are required by law to remove you from their email/call list. If you tell them you got your car already, they will also remove you immediately.

This is the case in California, not sure about other states.

hunger games is right. I wonder if they’ll allow a battle royal in the parking lot for the tires? Also seems like a cheesy way to get people into the dealership for what most likely is a non-existent product.

I can’t imagine people are going to be rushing in to get their $4k winter wheels

At the dealership

Emp: Hey Boss, we got a pair of wheels we took off that Lease Return and they will expire in a year! What should we do?
Boss : Send out a blanket email and tell them FIRST COME ONE ONLY.

That will clear them out pretty fast.

That is what I do on the M4. 19" OEM wheels for winter and nice aftermarket wheels for summer. Also it is the best time to buy a winter set if you have room to store them. I bought mine middle of summer and they were 30% cheaper than if I waited.
