Yeah the efficiency of the van was abysmal
Out of Spec has a test they do called 10% challenge. Bundles charging, range, efficiency into one test.
DCFC from 10% for 15 minutes, then drive at constant 80mph until back down to 10% SOC. Good simulation of real world charging on the go or road tripping.
why 80mph? Most of the EVs I drove at 80mph essentially spew out electrons, and the range falls off a cliff. Try cruising at 65-70 and you will get A LOT further.
Because those are speeds that most normal people drive
not 80mph in North East. Its the Florida speed of the slow lane.
Just came back from CT->FL->CT trip and most states 70mph speed limit is only past Washington. VA, NC, SC all drive 70+10 on I-95 while as soon as you cross in to Florida driving 80mph in the middle lane you are being passed by a semi on the right and minivan on the left both doing 90+
But in New Englang with 55mph speed limit on I-95 70mph is max for the flow or even lower.
I didn’t have any issues keeping up 80 in Tijuana, NY when traffic wasn’t standstill.
Sometimes I was even getting passed.
Yep Ca is going nuts with utility bills. Like I posted few weeks ago, SCE I. Socal will be 79% more expensive in 2028. With increases every year. You would think they would have waited to line more EV’s before raising rates. Homes in the inland desert areas where AC drives their bills past $500-$700 (W/out EV’s) per month in the summer will really feel it.
Good thing I have solar. But heard they are trying to do an income based monthly flat rate as well to screw the solar owners.
Even then, solar can only help so much when the lowest rate on the TOU tiers is still a kick in the nuts. DWP is still relatively reasonable but who knows for how long.
NEM 2 + on-premises battery storage was the key…
3x Powerwalls here and they basically pay you a few hundred bucks a year to configure your batteries to discharge back to the grid from 4pm to 9pm. Then you even get to bank the peak time export NEM 2 credit.
Takes #paidtodrive to a new level.
NEM 1.0 + w/max SEER rating full HVAC upgrade, plantation shutters on all south facing windows and 2x overbuilt solar has done the trick. Don’t care about an EV so that takes care of that.
Won’t be in the same house in 2037 for NEM 1.0 sunset so IDGAF about any increase.
This is for the solar owners, electric utility companies need to make their money and can’t have solar owners not pay them:
Old news. Should have read above first.
Get ready EA and EVGo to lose a ton of customers
Tesla coming for your KWhs
With all the free plans, EA is safe from losing ton of “customers”.
More like Tesla owners get ready to wait in line at superchargers…
Depending on how much Telsa is going to charger for non-Telas, I wouldn’t mind trying a closer SC out every once in a while.
I wonder what their charge speed is going to be like.
Depends if it’s a 350-500V car or a 600-1000V car since the current equipment is set up for ~400V so the limitation is amperage.
V4 should fix the current disparity.
Are they going to accept Bolts? and at what prices?
