I thought Mitch invoked the nuclear option last time? So 51?
Not if it kills off some of his competition. Rivian would be in a lot of trouble without those tax credits. Likely finish off Polestar. Legacy auto would have to push back estimated EV profit dates by years. Saudis will have to pump billions more into Lucid to keep it afloat.
Most Reps support IRA so there is that:
I don’t think Trump cares about what his voters think.
Most interesting thing I’ve read today. This means 8 dems would have to flip, given GOP presently holds 52 seats. But I’m not so sure it’s accurate. Perhaps cite a source?
The strongest factor weighing against the preservation of the original form of the IRA is that the law was passed under a Budget Resolution, which only requires a majority vote to undo. Accordingly, there will be no opportunity for a filibuster to defeat a repeal effort. Republicans would only have to secure a simple majority vote in both the House and the Senate and obtain the signature of the President, to repeal the law.

Filibuster will go away soon.
Anyone driven the new Macan ev yet?
Don’t buy it
Ah you’re right. This is a much more trustworthy source.
The original bill has some provisions that help seniors like cap insulin costs that would serve as a poison pill if they did full repeal as well as a bunch of business friendly credits. But those EV credits could indeed be toast. As much as they help Elon, his competition needs them a lot more especially if tariffs get tacked onto any foreign built models. A small percentage on non-Teslas are built in the US so they could lose the credit and then get a 10% tariff.
No, but I went to an unveiling last night. I believe they were offering test rides buts I wasn’t all that interested. It is definitely one of those vehicles that generally looks better in person vs in photos or videos IMO. I’ve said the same about the Taycan.
Anyway, it was nice overall and I think that I would look into getting one at some point. That particular unit had PORSCH text beneath the headrests, which were also illuminated. I thought it was a neat feature.
EVs are a business.
Regardless of politics and climate issues, which I never understood the alignment, I think everyone wants the businesses behind the EVs to continue building factories in their states and creating jobs.
But you never know.
If you’ve been wanting an electric car but everything seems too expensive, there’s some good news on the horizon. A whole lot of EV leases are due to expire in 2026, which should lead to something of a glut, according to data analyzed by JD Power.
I can only imagine what we’ll see then because used ones are already a fraction of original MSRP for the ones that have already hit the market off lease.
Toyota Motor Corp.’s North American chief operating officer criticized the US’s policies promoting speedy adoption of electric vehicles, calling them “de facto mandates” out of sync with consumer demand.
“Despite these mandates we will continue to sell the BZ4X, the most undesirable, out of sync vehicle in America.”
Imagine you are a dealer with a bunch of EVs on the lot, which will lose 7500 subsidies, and/or you expect their RV to nose-dive even more significantly as soon as Trump is sworn into office. I can imagine between now and January is the time of the most fantastic EV deals we have ever seen. Would not be surprised to see a lot of $0/m effective on 100k MSRP soon.
It’s a compliance car. They’d love to not have to sell it, which is essentially what the exec is arguing for.
We continue to sell an EV that is out of sync with consumer demand. Instead of us having to design a car that consumers want, we would rather whine about the govt so we can continue to sell our 13mpg Sequoia for 85K - Toyota.
This is Trump & Elon we’re talking about here, Elon will carve out Tesla n be the only company who has $7.5k tax rebate.
Guess who isn’t losing $4.5bill on EVs in a year like Ford?
