EV Discussion Thread

Luxury brand, but not a luxury car.

The Model S and Model X established Tesla as a luxury brand, at luxury prices.

The 3 and Y are just drafting on the earlier reputation.

To the average person, a Tesla is a Tesla, so you can buy a 3 and get the halo of the luxury brand.

Same is true of most every major luxury maker.

As someone here told me when I scoffed at how mid my Mercedes GLB rental from Hertz was, car manufacturers are in the business of putting butts in car seats, and they’ve got to extend their markets to find more butts…

What do you prefer in the i5 over the i4?

I found the I5 better in almost every way. Being able to fit regular sized adults in the second row of seats is the most obvious difference, along with wider and more comfortable front seats. Rear wheel steer and air suspension on the I5 are also a difference maker. DAPP system was superior on the I5 (highway assist). But my biggest issue with the I4 was loss of power at high speed, for example passing on the highway. I5 power band is limitless, and you pull that turbo lever, and it will pin your head back. My I4(s) had no such ability above 80mph. The I5 got more compliments then the I4, like front row parking with the exotics at the valet and parking garage. I4 was looked at as just another meh commuter car.

Does the RWS cancel out how these cars feel nose-heavy compared to purpose built EV?

Have you driven all of these or just ranking in general? If in general surprised no taycan or etron gt for cars.

Doubt I’ll have another etron deal come February 2025, so might look at i7 m60

So I just picked up my eqs and I’m at home now trying to use the wall charger that came with vehicle, it’s called webasto. When I plug it into the wall it turns blue first then blue and red then blank then blue then red then just orange, idk what to do.

Anyone help?

If its the mobile one, theres nothing to it besides plug it in and thats it. Unless its different now, if thats level 1 dont bother wasting your time. You gonna be there few days to fully charge car

These are all the EV’s I have owned.

I don’t buy VAG products.

I see. Any particular reason against Volks?

I do prefer german but mostly shop deals. Now fully EV in household with one being american with a Lyriq, which I’m finding to be a rip off of MB anyway

No HK EVs either?

It ended up being my parent old house, my own house worked fine.

What do you think about chargepoint wall charger for lvl 2 for home?

Im sorry but im the wrong guy to ask, as myself im learning this ev stuff day by day with the help of this community here. Hopefully someone will chime in and could guide you the right direction of which chargers are good. Gooluck

You can reference our EVSE thread for recommendations-

TLDR-

  1. Whatever free L2 charger may come with the vehicle. Could be a mobile charger or a promotion to get a free installed charger.
  2. Telsa Wall Connector for indoor installs and hardwire
  3. Grizzl-E classic, for outdoor installs or NEMA outlets.
  4. Pulsar Wallbox, where you need a smart connector to qualify for utility discounts.

I have a webasto lvl 1/2 charger that came with the eqs

So I guess I should return my chargepoint and either use the webasto charger or get a tesla wall charger right for inside garage charger?

The reason I was getting the chargepoint was for it being smart

The EQS comes with a free wallbox offer. Put your VIN in this link to submit an order. It says the program expired 8/30 but it seems to still be working.

Mercedes Wallbox Offer

This would be your best value option. The Webasto, most likely, only goes to 7.7kw – I wouldn’t use it except for emergencies.

it didnt work for me :sob: :sob: :sob:

Thanks for sharing your experience.

What about the Ariya pushed it to near the bottom?

I’m thinking of making the switch to the iX but the EQS 580 is a contender. Wife prefers the bimmer though.

An Ariya Engage is no where near the range of a M3LR or the comfort of a BMW. Though IMHO, the M3 comfort is lower than the Ariya
