Did i get screwed? (tesla model 3 highland 2024)

Not true when you share a car - that’s my point. Wife and I drive one car. Even when we get a new one, our ICE car is gonna be used less and the EV is gonna be driven by both when we need it.

I can add a few more things here -

  1. Blind spot cameras and view.
  2. Autopilot/FSD is arguably better than Ioniq’s bluelink. I don’t care about this as much, but others do. FSD is to become a subscription based feature in June - that enables you to use it for one month ($100) if you’re on a road-trip and then cancel it.

That’s not particularly helpful then as it’s a completely academic exercise. Check Marketplace for discount levels and let’s talk real numbers.

@max_g I’ve done that exercise already - the truth is that the supply demand ratio of ioniq 6’s are skewed right now, at least in WA state. Also, even if you do get lower numbers the fact that there’s a big difference in features still holds true. The Ioniq deals are fabulous ONLY if you don’t care about features and do the SE trim. You get a lot of bang for your buck that way - similarly Teslas give you better bang for your buck if you do want features.

After 2+ years with a Model 3, I will say this is not minor. This is actually a major negative of the car. Interior becomes 115+ after just a few hours in the sun in 75 degree weather

This is one of those things I’m conflicted about. My BIL has a Tesla (east coast) and says the same about the heat. We’re in the PNW though, and honestly would love a little more light 6-7 months a year. But again, YMMV.

Does ioniq 6 have head up display, blind spot warning and bird’s eye view camera? Some of the critical features IMO that’s missing in model 3.

Heads up display only in their top trim (Limited). Blind spot warning exists in lower trims but not a camera view or avoiding it. Tesla Model 3 gives you blind spot camera view.

+1 they don’t have a sunshade to close it. My X7 and EQE have panoramic glass roof but the ability to close it with sunshade is great. My kid always complained of the sun glare in my model X but nothing much we can do about it. We close our sunshade almost 100% of the time now in summer california.

It seems your decision has been made for Tesla. Please come back here again when you’re done with it, realize your mistake and want another car instead. (You will) :stuck_out_tongue:

IMO blind spot warning is more useful than a camera. My experience with my model x is that not having a blind spot warning could be dangerous. It’s very intuitive to look towards the window you want to change lane to, and your mirror has the indicator right there to warn you, vs having to look into the center screen again to check the camera.

Similar to how the turning signal is designed in new teslas, I think some designer at tesla need to have a look at their UX.

Upper trim Hyundai, Kia and Genesis products have blindspot cameras. They call it BVM for blindspot view monitor or something.

Learn to adjust use your mirrors correctly and you don’t need a blind spot detector. Yes get off my lawn.

Yes that’s what I meant. Blind spot “alert” exists in lower trims but the monitoring through cameras etc exists only in the top trim (Limited)

Lol no it isn’t yet - I’m trying to find if I can get a good deal for the i4 actually. But other than that, I’m finding it hard to argue against a Tesla. I was a Tesla hater myself just because it was so common to see it everywhere and then the initial build quality issues were just sad. The ioniq 6 and newer model 3 are the only two cars that genuinely made my wife and I smile when we got in and drove it. I personally like the styling of the ioniq 6 more but can’t ignore that only the SE deals makes sense. Everything else is too expensive.

Absolutely. My current car doesn’t have them. It doesn’t even have the blind spot alert - it’s all head, neck and eyes baby. This goes back to my previous point - if you can live without any of the convenience features go for the SE trim of ioniq 6. If you want SEL, then M3 is a better choice. If you want Limited, then i4 is a better choice.

Why not just get a top trim though? Still cheaper than a model 3.

I find it interesting how people get so hung up on gadgets in cars. Gadgets that will never be used for the most part. Yet stuff like handling, acceleration, braking is never a concern for buyers.

You can see why. Every car commercial talks about gadgets. Never about how it does “car things”.

What are you even talking about? If you can get me a limited trim ioniq 6 cheaper than a M3 I’ll sign today.

Looking into marketplace, maybe not for ioniq 6 right now, but plenty of ioniq 5 limited cheaper than/similar to a M3:

Also, in your table, the ioniq 6 DAS likely includes registration, taxes and fees, whereas tesla’s website do not include registration, taxes and fees.

Maybe at current moment, deals are not the best for ioniq, but there’s always some deals every month that’s way better than a M3. Eg. EQS in March, Lucid in April, Polestar/Lyriq in May.

Or you know, you can just get an i4:

Not sure where you get the $700+ a month from, but i4e35 is just $350+ a month with MSD.

Looking into marketplace, maybe not for ioniq 6 right now, but plenty of ioniq 5

Exactly my point brother - I’m not interested in an ioniq 5, I hate the interior. It’s cheap and plasticy.

Also, in your table, the ioniq 6 DAS likely includes registration, taxes and fees, whereas tesla’s website do not include registration, taxes and fees

No it does not. I’ve verified that multiple times. If there was a good deal on an ioniq 6, trust me I would pick that no question.

Eg. EQS in March, Lucid in April, Polestar/Lyriq in May.

The only car I would pick in that list is the Lucid. I’m not chasing brand names here, and Mercedes needs to get their EV game right. I really wanted to like the Polestar - went for a test drive and came out more disappointed than any other car I tried. The car is so small inside it’s stupid. I don’t have EV data on Lyriq so can’t speak for it yet.

For the i4 -
I’m currently trying to look up deals and I’ve seen the link you posted. My numbers were based on $0 downpayment and no other rebates other than the $7500. You can’t just quote $350 a month without all the other factors - regardless if I find a good deal here I would go for the i4 as well.

Says who? Have you statistically analyzed users? Most people don’t care about handling, acceleration, and braking in modern cars. People care about blind spot cameras, rear cross traffic alert etc. Just because you don’t use BSM, doesn’t mean most people don’t.

I don’t care about blind spot cameras, rear cross traffic alert, etc. Those go to nice to have column, not a must have column. I’ve been driving safely without those for years. As my dad said, that’s what your eyes and mirrors are for. Yes, I do care more about handling, suspension, braking etc. I bet if you put a poll here, you will find yourself in the minority.

And that’s your biggest mistake here, not knowing what other rebates applied on other car and what dealer discount you can possibly get. It’s your job to know what other car are currently leasing for, not just assuming $0 DAS & $7500 rebate to apply on all cars. It seems you are here to justify what you’re going to pay for a tesla, so go ahead, scratch that itch and be done with it.

Antiquated (and uneducated) take

Yes I have. I found that 82.77% of people do that. It’s on the internet so it must be true. If you need the gadgets have at it. Car manufacturers love you for it. It’s where the highest margins are. I mean can any civilized society operate without cooled seats? I think not!!!
