So jealous of the CO and CA lease deals. There are sales tax credits on this model, base money factor, and no dealer mark ups. I’ve been annoying tons of dealers. This is the cheapest. Was hoping for $150 month and $150 down but not sure it’s possible in this EV-hating state…
Haha similar deal! What is so annoying, this Dallas dealer is advertising this amazing deal but like magic the sales manager has no idea how to match it. He claims he has no control over what is advertised on the internet and cannot get to this number no matter what he tries. So annoying.
Let’s not miss the forest for the trees on these examples. These are two states, one of which I live in, that have a state income tax. The elected then have chosen to incentivize or subsidize the purchase of EV’s. While on the other hand you live in a state with no state income tax and on certain vehicles a way to make your tax burden of vehicle ownership similar to other states through tax credits from the lessor.
As I recall your state chooses to get the money from higher property taxes, taxes on leases the same as a purchase & I am sure a number of other ways.
The point is to make sure you are comparing apples to apples, not be jealous b/c two or three other states are incentivizing EV’s for a variety of reasons.
While I do not follow the VW ID4 market too closely, is $150 DAS / $150 month something you’ve seen in TX that your basing your target on?
Just checking, you qualify for all of the incentives that add up to $17,500 and you e made sure all the incentives can & do actually stack together?
We frequently see dealer ads where the rebate stack exceeds what is possible is the reason I ask.
Honestly if you keep a dialogue with the one sales manager I imagine you can improve the offer in the next two weeks ( depending on inventory ) however I’m not sure how likely going from $260 to $150 is. Obv this my .02 on this.
No kidding, smarty. If you calc the msrp, selling price, RV, and MF, then put it into a nifty thing called a lease calculator, you actually get less than $150.
Thanks for asking. I included those as well. I even asked the sales manager base the deal on 36/10 like the ad and that I’ll gladly pay TT&L up front like the ad. Didn’t happen. I wish there were tighter regulations on these deceptive ads.
Texas is a big state, larger than France as we like to say. We like EVs well enough, so much so the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality was doling out thousands of dollars in rebates for the better part of a decade. Combine our huge market with state tax credits for leasing, Texas can offer some of the best leases in the country.
If I were shopping for an iD4 at msrp $46k, I’d shoot for $199/mo with $199 DAS (first month’s payment only) based off the incentive data I see on Edmunds. So that means your offer of $260 is not even $1500 apart from this target ($60 x 24). So I’d probably settle for $220.
Securing a steal of a deal is about the right car, timing, and finesse. Telling the dealer, “I just want the deal posted in the ad” communicates to them that you’re not a sophisticated buyer. Instead tell them you’re, “well aware of the residual, money factor, and $5k in dealer incentives. You’re only $1500 apart, so let’s make a deal today.”
After all, a steal, by definition, is not a deal the dealer can give everyone and stay in business. They will not advertise and honor loss-making deals available to everyone. You have to work for it.
Thanks for the response and makes sense. The offer I posted above is from a different, much nicer dealer than the one with the fake ad, so I’ll try your approach. Ty!
Thank you, sir. Yes, I’ll re-direct the thread. I really would just like to find out if the $260 / $260 for a 24/10 really is the best it gets in Texas.
About 11% off MSRP or $5k dealer discount plus the $4200 dealer cash and L&M (tax credits) equivalent to no higher than 1.25%. I think $200 is doable but tough…I don’t know what the inventory is like. More easily is probably $230-$260 like the OP already has. This payment is so low already, we’re really just haggling over $100s of dollars and/or bragging rights.
I haven’t driven the updated ID4, but if it’s within $100/mo of an Optiq, I’d prefer the Optiq:
Terrible response. He wasn’t being rude to you at all. He was pointing out that your assumptions are incorrect. There’s also a “nifty” thing you can do where you don’t go into a sarcastic funk because someone told you you’re wrong. But hey, I’m sure you’ll make friends left and right with this approach. Good luck on your VW unicorn, and congrats on your middling i7 deal.
He came across as terribly rude. Saying “The ad doesn’t say $150” was snarky, brusque, and ultimately unhelpful. Of course the ad didn’t say that. But if you take the MSRP, the selling price, apply the tax credits, and account for everything else, $150 is easily achievable. So why post a dismissive response instead of actually addressing the question? It didn’t add value, it was rude, and it didn’t provide an answer. There are plenty of people shopping for ID.4s in Texas this month, and thoughtful, constructive responses would actually help.
