357 with tax…

Ended up pulling the trigger on a loaded 2019 Jeep Cherokee Latitude Plus. 4x4, V6, Cold Weather Group, Comfort/Convenience Group, 9 Amplified Speakers w/ Subwoofer, and Panoramic Sunroof. $5500 off MSRP (not including $2750 in lease incentives for the Cherokee Latitude Plus). 3 year / 10K lease with ~$250 monthly (includes tax) and ~$1750 up front (includes licensing fees, initial monthly, and was supposed to cover lease acquisition which was later removed since MIL qualified for first tier lease). The up front should come down another $500 after they refund $500 overcharged due to gross incompetence (or intentional error) on part of finance staff.

What an ordeal. We initially had a deal inked. Numbers came very close to Jeep lease calculator ignoring taxes and licensing. Then an hour later they came back, apologized for making us wait so long, and said they messed up the lease calculation and proceeded to jack up numbers. Would not listen to reason. I showed them the jeep.com lease calculator for exact vehicle w/ $5500 MSRP discount. They were clueless and just stonewalled telling me I could leave if I didn’t agree with their numbers. Deal was going sideways. Salesperson ran after general manager and literally pulled him out of the car (he was heading home). He came back to teach the finance guys some basic lease math. MIL was about to lose it. Within 15 minutes numbers were corrected. Sigh of relief. I thought we were good to go, then they screwed up numbers again after general manager left. I was not going to put my MIL through another round of BS and rolled the dice the general manager will fix their gross incompetence tomorrow. Short story they were supposed to give her free oil changes for the life of the lease for messing up the math so bad initially, but instead of deducting $250 from vehicle cost and adding back a $250 line item for free oil changes they managed to just add $250 twice and increased the cost $500, lol.

MIL is thrilled. Many thanks to @jamiemose and @lackofemotion for steering us to the 2019 Cherokee Latitude Plus lease incentives. We couldn’t find anything that leases this well in the Seattle area. Note the 4x4 leases cheaper than the 2WD due to higher residual. Similarly for other options if you get higher MSRP discounts (V6 or Turbo bundled with other options may lease for a lower premium vs. 4 cylinder > V6 without options). Check out Marysville Jeep for some great fishing licenses (we used their online MSRP discount to negotiate the exact same deal on the same exact vehicle at Kirkland).

Nicely done! Sorry for all the hassle in finance, but I’d say that was worth the effort.

Is there a broker that could help me seal 2 deals on a jeep lease … here in the seattle area thanks pm me

I followed up with the Kirkland Jeep dealership today to determine how the extra $500 got thrown into the vehicle cost. It seems the finance person flat-out lied to us and simply added $250 to the cost of the vehicle for the so-called free oil changes. It doesn’t surprise me but this was extremely unethical. The other $250 was due to the destination charge being different on the vehicle I was price matching other than the vehicles being exactly identical. So they only price match the discount on MSRP rather than the price. I didn’t want to put my mother-in-law through the agony of having to go back to the dealership and re-sign the lease to get the free oil changes removed. They agreed to let her redeem her free oil changes at any Jeep dealership so it’s not a complete loss. The other thing I am still having difficulty understanding is why the monthly lease cost is 10 to $20 different than the one on the Jeep site for the same up front. The finance manager assured me there was no other games going on and believes the calculator on the Jeep site isn’t correct. I’m going to head to Marysville and have them price out the lease on the exact same vehicle and to see if their numbers agree. it would seem this could be some sort of class action against Jeep for advertising on their website a specific lease promotion that when you go into the dealership you can’t actually get. And yes, I’m not including anything that isn’t in the Jeep calculators such as licensing costs and taxes.

Unfortunately there is all sorts of fine print about dealer contribution blah blah etc etc, so good luck with that.

There you go

Yes feeling much better about the deal we got from Kirkland after heading to Marysville tonight (we like the MIL’s vehicle so much we are considering buying one for ourselves). They wouldn’t budge on removing the acquisition fee and they were also playing around with the money factors. I heard the finance guy telling the salesperson that he wouldn’t budge on the numbers as he needed the margins. For the exact same vehicle they were coming in around $275 per month before tax. Short story use Marysville’s online prices to negotiate MSRP discount elsewhere but waste of time to get them to quote a reasonable lease.

Much appreciated info enjoy great deal

I was able to get Kirkland’s numbers to tie exactly to the jeep.com lease calculator. See summary here (with the oil changes removed and corrected down payment).

Also, not really a lease hack but as mentioned above my wife and I liked the Jeep we leased for her mother so much we ended up buying one for ourselves today at Marysville. I went yesterday to try and validate the lease pricing we got from Kirkland and it was quite clear Marysville didn’t want to quote a lease without padding. Reading between the lines they were advertising the vehicle at a loss, but hoping to make it up with other padding. So I just bought the vehicle outright to wipe out the padding, lol. Got a slightly higher incentive for purchase ($3000 vs. $2750 for lease) plus another 2 x $500 of incentives if you finance a minimum of $7500 (minimum payoff 6 months). Also, as a Penfed member I qualified for another $1000 purchase incentive (not valid for lease and cannot be combined with military discount or similar discounts - I think Sam’s Club and USAA members qualify for the same purchase incentive). We knew we needed a new vehicle eventually and it seemed like a great buy for a loaded 2019 Jeep Cherokee 4x4 Latitude Plus.

TLDR, I was able to purchase the same vehicle for $23999 + tax which was a MSRP discount of $10,516 ($5516 dealer contribution + $3000 purchase incentive + 2 x $500 finance incentive + $1000 Penfed incentive). Far less drama (and $2250 more in incentives) vs. leasing.

I should give a shout out to the two salespeople I worked with. Both were great. Zizi at Kirkland and Linda at Marysville (she was really disappointed she couldn’t get her finance guys to quote a lease without padding, but who knows maybe they learned their lesson as forcing me to buy only ensured no padding). Hope this information will help others successfully hack a great deal, whether leasing or not.

Awesome deal…Tom thanks for helping me … I sealed 2 Cherokee s yesterday … but nothing amazing like your deal… I think your would qualify as a hack … I showed them the numbers … they where rubbing their heads … they owed me big time … so they tried … ( we spent over 6h … ) at the renton dealership I had to get at least one … my wife feel for a a latitude plus with active 2 sys… and I got a trail hawk elite … the marysvile dealer is really pushing good prices… just didnt have the time and patience to go up there ( married life)

So in the end, you still didn’t take our advice to negotiate over email?

Glad it worked out anyway to your satisfaction.

Negotiate what over email? There’s a lot of moving parts. In theory you can just email a dozen dealers with the vehicle you want. I believe it’s referred to as not negotiating and you tell them they will win the business if they quote the lowest price. Maybe it works better with Subaru or other brands. I wasn’t having much luck with the local Jeep dealers.

My process was to find the highest local MSRP discount online (before incentives) on the vehicle I wanted. I found that on Marysville’s website. I contacted dealers with the same vehicle in stock to see if they would match the dealer contribution and quote a lease without any padding. Ultimately Kirkland did.

Exactly what I did after receiving a million promises online email quotes probably all the Internet mangers know me I averaged over 200 messages a day just for this … thank God it’s over much easier buying but we needed to lease …

Thanks for the advice but what I really needed was help … thanks… Tomdav for calling me up and spending the time to explain your experience and texting me with updates it helped a lot…

That was probably directed at Ranger who likes to collect foursquares like some people collect stamps
