Honestly I don’t think I enjoy driving as much as looking at cars now. I’m a safe driver and I drive speed limit+5, but at this speed I get tailgated frequently. Also, I usually don’t press gas hard when I’m the first one at the light. Once in a while when I press gas slightly harder than usual, the car next to me floors it and flies by me at 60-70mph in a 45mph zone. I find myself enjoy driving only when there’s not much cars around. My current car is Acura ILX and at first I wanted to lease a BMW 330i as my next car. I thought I would enjoy the test drive but no….I did not. When I was test driving yesterday, an old Mercedes C230 next to me decided to drag race at the entrance of the freeway. Of course I lost because I’m not a fast driver. Then on the way back to the dealership, I was tailgated by a Civic. Now I’m thinking to just get a SUV, yes it’s boring…but I feel less nervous/ intimidated when I’m being tailgated in a SUV. I don’t see the point of me getting a BMW 330i when I don’t drive fast. It’s just really frustrating for me sometimes. Do you guys have any advice?
It shouldn’t be a big problem. I haven’t had many people try to race me in my 330e. As long as you don’t look over at the other driver at a stop light, I doubt people will really be trying too hard to get you to race.
What’s really annoying is the people that race you to a red light.
You should pretend like you’re down to race then let them take off and waste their gas.
It takes two to race, who cares if someone else floors it off a light? Just go on with your day as normal.
Who cares what other people do. If he/she floors it good for them. When someone tailgates too close i slowdown slowly and put hazard lights on. If i am on left lane i just move over but other lanes i just go about my business and slowly lower speed till he backs off.
why do you care so much what the other driver is doing? as long as he doesn’t race into the side of your car he can do whatever he wants to do
amen to that, just don’t try to race them. However, if people tailgate me, since I have led brake lights I flash them 3-4 times. They mostly back off, then I’ll spray the window washer fluid.
Nobody’s trying to race you, you’re just driving too slow for socal traffic. If the speed limit is 45 then the actual speed limit is more like 60.
i’d love to know where, got ticketed going 30 in a 25 although that was in a school zone at 9am, unfortunate for me but the car in front and behind me got lucky as they didn’t get pulled over as well!
it doesn’t matter if you win by an inch or a mile.
I live in the SF bay area. I understand that 50mph may be too slow for the social traffic in a 45mph zone but I don’t want to get a ticket. My coworker was driving at 60mph (speed limit was 45mph) when we went to get lunch 2 months ago, a cop stopped us and gave him a ticket. My mom also got a ticket for driving 74mph on the freeway a few years ago. It seems like if you’re not driving at least speed limit +10 here, you’ll just get bullied. I’m just tired of being tailgated all the time.
LA-SD. One time I was doing a bit over 90 on the 5 and a cop pulls up behind me, flashes his lights, and then just keeps going when I slow down to pull over.
If you’re not doing 10 over in the right lane you’re going too slow. If someone is tailgating you, pull over to the right lane and let them pass.
oof 5 is so much fun. I usually tend to go around 70ish in the left lane but as soon as i see someone tailgating, i’ll just switch lanes which everyone tailgating me seems to appreciate
If you keep right except to pass, you’ll find that you almost never get tailgated
I had this problem massively when I had a new GTI. Every idiot in a honda with a shitty exhaust would want to drag race me. People would freak out and motion for me to slow down when driving in my neighborhood at normal speeds. It was a regular occurance.
I’ve noticed that I get far less hassle when driving something larger, or nicer. say a Grand Cherokee or Infiniti vs an Impreza or Camry. People are less idiotic in general.
It also depends on the area. There’s some places in LA I just won’t drive.
Is this happening in the left lane?
It’s happening in both lanes. I usually drive in the right lane. My friend told me just to ignore the tailgaters but I’m the kind of person that gets nervous easily. I can feel my heart beating fast when I get tailgated. I’ve noticed it also depends on where you live and what kind of car you drive. I went to Portland for one week last month and I only got tailgated once during my entire trip. Now I start to think maybe getting a SUV is the only solution, but I don’t want to drive something I don’t like …
I had more people try to race me when I was in my two door Civic DX as a poor student than when I was leasing a 530i. I had 3-4 people tried that when the first Fast and Furious movie premiered.
I’ll play DA. From a Tailgater’s perspective; If you’re in the far left lane and you observe a car traveling a high rate of speed approaching from behind, move TF over. Otherwise, be prepared to be tailgated, flashed, cut-off, and possibly have loose change (or other objects) thrown at your car. If you decide to be cheeky and slowdown intentionally or put your windshield washers on (thanks for providing the fluid to clean my windshield btw), than you should expect amplified repercussions. There’s more than one lane for a reason. Also given the SN numeric of “2001”, I’m assuming you’re at least 17. If in fact you’re still a teen - man up. Otherwise, don’t be a b***h and whine when someone tailgate’s you. In South Florida, driver’s tend to pull gun’s out in retaliation. Lastly, who gives AF what the guy next to you at a red light is doing. However, if the light turns green and I catch you on your phone, I’ll blow my train horns at you and scare the piss out of you. Pay attention and use the accelerator. FYI, this is just me playing DA
Lets race! (202020202020)
