Anyone know the rules or warranty on tires for leases vehicles? In my specific case I have a 2019 Infiniti QX60 with 28k miles, tires getting down to 1/8 or less. Bridgestone Dueler Sport AS tires. On the website it’s says limited warranty to 40k miles but when I contact them they tell me to contact the location where the vehicle was purchased.
trying to make a ‘warranty claim’ on new tires that came with the car is basically going to hurt.
Talk to the service manager of the dealership but don’t hold your breath trying to get a deal.
It’s just easier/cheaper to buy new tires from a national chain
Good work, we didn’t get more than 18k out of the OE bridgestones or Pirelli Scorpion Verde AS plus we put on and they had a treadwear rating of 700 or something. With that said, if you’re close to turn in, go with utires.com and save mucho dinero.
I did have limited excess with a dealer, mainly as a challenge because I couldn’t stand the service manager, and b_tched to the point they gave me 50% off their price so got the Pirellis for under 400. Turning our Qx60 in tomorrow and got used of utires - 4 for 175 (they’re all 6/32) which will pass the lease turn in (no plugs either). Good luck.
Unless you bought an additional tire and wheel warranty when you leased — wear items like tires and breaks and not covered by the manufacturer warranty. You’re on your own to replace those bald tires.
Tires are measured in 32nds, and if you are down to 1/32 you should not even be driving on them on dry pavement.
Our lease is due in march. I’m thinking of putting new tires on for the winter to go to the snow if I can’t get warrantied tires, then extending the lease. We got a smoking deal $440/month on almost 70k so I’m in no rush to turn in given the current market.
BTW you know the ‘warranty’ is a ‘proration’. So if you used up your tires in 50% of the time, you can get a prorated 50% off the price of a New tire. 50% of a Dealer price can be ugly. Hence why I said National tire chains will be cheaper
In general these types of warranties are good for receiving a credit towards a new set of tires worth the amount of expected wear that you did not get. For example, if the tires were rated for 40,000 miles and you only got 20,000 you could receive a credit of 50% of the value of the tires towards a new set. I had this happen to me and the service department at my dealership was actually very helpful in processing everything. I got a new set of tires for a fraction of what they would have cost me otherwise. If you are bringing the car in for service anytime soon you might want to point out the premature wear and see what they will offer you towards a replacement.
Post a link.
FYI - went through this and there is no proration for the original tires on these vehicles. If they wore out at 5k, you’re SOL.
That’s what I suspect. Warranties generally apply to brand new tires bought retail through authorized retailers or dealers, yada yada yada.
Still, curious what verbiage the OP read @tlow
Facebook market place. Look for some used tires or take offs. I got my snow tires/wheels for both XC90/XC60 through marketplace or forums. Tons of people sell take off tires and wheels, often times separate.
May I ask why you considered snow tires? Did your XC60/90 come with summer tires? Are you in an area with unslusually heavy snow?
It is 1/32nd or 4/32nds (32nds are usually what tires are measured in). Usually 3/32nds is when you want to replace tires. So if you are at 4/32nds (or 1/8th) then I don’t think the warranty will apply just yet. If it is 1/32nds, you should replace immediately.
As for the warranty itself, there are tons of terms and conditions and it is the tire brand’s warranty rather than the car manufacturer. They will usually cover a percentage of the premature wear for a replacement tire, not the full cost of a new tire.
Or the labor to change the tire.
My previous 2017 GMC Acadia with Michelin Premier LTX had the same issue. Acadia’s tire were changed at dealership under warranty with 19.5 K miles from GM. I need to pay 25% of the cost for all 4 tires due to some pro rate calculation by GM. The vehicle was not not bought at the dealership which did the warranty work but my Vehicle was serviced there on regular basis.
So I think your local dealership shall be able to provide more details.
This was my exact same situation with a 2018 Acadia and the same tires. I forget how much I ended up paying but it was a very good deal for 4 new tires.
Do National tire chains not respect the tire manufacturer “wear” warranty? Since they are also retailers, they should be able to process the wear warranty, right?
The language in the warranty says ‘Selling Dealer’. Aka the Dealership.
Ex : Buying a tire from America’s tire, and going to Pep Boys, Pep Boys won’t honor any warranties. The tire would have to go back to America’s tire.
I contacted them directly via chat and also phone. Both said I had to contact the dealership where I bought the car as Bridgestone wouldn’t do anything since they weren’t bought thru Bridgestone.
Even my wrangler gets snow tires. They’re cheap insurance. I go to a lot of dirt roads with my dogs that are often unplowed. Live on a more isolated street. Also 3 of 4 drivers in the house need to get to hospitals in whatever weather conditions. Even with the air suspension providing the extra lift it doesn’t make up for the stronger traction and braking. I’m gonna wear through the regular tires anyways so may as well distribute it among 2 sets.
