Warranty on tires for leased vehicles

Another question. I got the car from about an hour away. Can I call my local Infiniti to try and get this sorted. I know it’s a long shot, but worth saving a couple hundred bucks.

I just had this discussion with my wife last night. The next car we lease, I’m going to get a set of winter tires for. We each to 20K miles per year and barely get 2 years out of a set of tires. Since we end up having to replace them anyway before we turn the car in, we might as well pay for the winter tires, use them (for a few months in the winter) and turn the car in with whatever tires it comes with.

Well I have an appt scheduled to get it checked out. They said it might be possible directly thru Infiniti so fingers crossed. I’ll let you guys know what happens next week!

Exactly. Wrangler is a lease that will be purchased cause it’s averaging around 25k a year. I bought a set of take off from a wrangler forum for $100 with tpms and I’ll have blizzaks put on from Costco. The XC90 and XC60 already have theirs mounted. They’re not that much more expensive and make a massive difference.

You could have saved a lot of time if you believed what I said. There’s no warranty on original tires, complain to the dealer…

With that said, since you got 28k out of the OE Bridgestones, you’re probably better off than the hundreds of us who got the same vehicle during that timeframe. I’m sure the dealer will tell you most don’t last 20k. Good luck.

Because AWD can only distribute torque, not increase total grip. Or help you stop.

Only tires can do that.

Plus:

Huge variation in the quality of OEM tires when new plus in how quickly they degrade for meaningful snow traction.

Lot of variation among peoples commutes and driving habits; even in places without a huge amount of snow (NYC metro area, for example) lot of people are on the road before the plows.

The Dueler Sport AS is particularly bad in snow so consider a different tire. If you truly intend to keep the car for some time/miles look at the Michelin crossclimate2. An excellent all weather tire that gets incredible reviews for snow traction. I would sell you the Duelers off my SUV with only 650 miles on them for 400 but they are 235/60 18 and yours are 235/65 18…

He said the list was close to 70. It has 20s. 235 55 20.

Got everything checked out. Service person said I probably have a claim buuuuuttt she said best I could hope for was 15% off. She’s done it a few times and never seen over 20%.

So even at 20% new Bridgestones, it doesn’t make sense when I can go to a local tire shop and get better tires for less than the Bridgestones plus 20% off 🤷

How did you go about finding the used tires?

I’ve been there, that’s why I posted that. But hopefully you didn’t lose too much time finding out they were going to pay much.

utires.com as mentioned above. I find them to be the cheapest online option with good customer service. Once delivered, you’ll have to go to your local shop to get them mounted and balanced. Which should be no more than 20/tire.

Tire warranties pertain to retail purchases, yet to see any evidence that they apply to original equipment tires.

More than likely just a placebo statement, and a discount they can offer anyone because there’s enough margin on it.

The absolute best you could probably expect would be 33% off since you have used about 67% of the expected life of the tires. Up to you whether you think it’s worth it or if you want to go another route.

A couple of years ago I ordered replacement tires from Discount Tire for my leased Volt and when I went to have them installed the manager who happened to check me in mentioned Michelin warranty credit for two of them. He also would let me apply it toward another brand.

I decided to wait in hopes the other two would wear below warranty minimums, but later went back and had all four replaced. The manager I spoke with wasn’t there and the employee wasn’t aware of what I’d been told, but he gave me some kind of credit for two of the worn OEM Michelins with 29k on them and left with four new Nexens for under $200 installed.

No idea if this is repeatable or a normal policy for any brand, but it worked once.

I had an OEM set pro rated once. I don’t recall the details regarding the pro rated credit or the tire brand at this point, but it was significant enough that I went with the replacement vs just buying a different tire. Technically you bought the OEM tires during the vehicle purchase transaction as part of the car, so the pro rated warranty should apply. I had a pamphlet in the glove box upon vehicle purchase that outlined the warranty just as if I bought the tires at Firestone/Goodyear/insert retailer here.

My OEM tires on my wifes 2019 Lexus es350 wore out at 20k miles on a 70k mileage warranty. Took them to discount tire and they gave me a credit towards new tires after talking to the manufacturer. Seems like I got 4 new tires installed for like $250. I went with better tires as well…they just gave me a credit towards them.
