My understanding is the separate non-CPO warranty is not the same exclusionary policy offered under Certified by Volvo. In other words, it only covers the parts listed in the agreement.

I think the big difference is that the CPO one offers a 10-year/unlimited mile option, if I’m not mistaken.

The platinum coverage is the exclusionary policy, just in case anyone is wondering.
PLATINUM IS “EXCLUSIONARY” COVERAGE:

This means it covers your vehicle’s assemblies unless listed under the Exclusions section of the Vehicle Service Contract. See below:

PLATINUM EXCLUSIONS:

Brake linings, brake drums and rotors, disc brake pads, standard manual transmission clutch friction disc, pressure plate, pilot bearing, throw-out bearing and arm, air bags, solar powered devices, glass, lenses, sealed beams, body parts and/or panels, weather stripping, trim, moldings, lock cylinders, tires, wheels, all batteries except Hybrid/EV/Hydrogen High Voltage batteries as listed under Gold Coverage, light bulbs, upholstery, paint, bright metal, freeze plugs, filters, heater and radiator hoses, exhaust system, catalytic converter, shock absorbers, work such as front-end alignment or wheel balancing (except when required in conjunction with a mechanical breakdown), safety restraint systems, audio/security or other systems not factory installed, or vinyl and convertible tops.

Does the warranty cost significantly increase for old cars? Will it make the TCO of 10-20 years old Porsche/Range Rover higher than a 5-10 years old one?

See my example above. Age isn’t a big factor, mileage is.

You’re going to pay a lot more upfront for a 10k mile 2011 car and minimal for an extended warranty. But on the flip side, you’ll pay little upfront for a “regular” mileage 2011 car and a ton for an extended warranty.

A lot more variables going into TCO to answer that.

Keep looking, im sure there is something out there, just need to find the right person who knows.
I bought an Accord about 10 years ago and wanted to keep it a long time but didnt want to pay the dealer warranty prices. It was ridiculous for a Honda
Somehow i found a Honda dealer on the east coast who sold warranties up until the last mile of the 36mo/36K factory warranty expired for about 40% of my dealers price. I just filled out paperwork on their website and they sent me a hardcopy and digital copy of the warranty extending the original Honda factory warranty.

Just picked up my car back from Carmax.
Carmax tried a bunch of things bu couldn’t fully fixed the issue so they sent the car to an another shop.
That shop fixed a bunch of additional “issues” they found and now I’m looking at a ~9k receipt which all of them covered by MaxCare…

This is not even include the amount of effort/money that went in, before carmax give up and sent to the other shop…

Used luxury cars continue to look more and more delicious. This is the most beautiful BMW body style ever made in my opinion. Warranty seems pretty comprehensive.

I can’t find any documentation of the Shift Warranty and it does appear to be Inclusive which is the ‘worst’ type.

Not sure I understand what you’re saying.

My main question, is who is paying out warranty claims if Shift, Carvana, etc, end up going out of business?

It would be whomever the underwriter is for the warranty plan. In the case of Shift it would be underwritten & the claim paid by either Assurant, Ally, or Veritas.

Inclusive warranty means it states exactly what it covers. If the tire is covered but the labor to fix it isn’t mentioned it’s not paid out even though you need to remove the wheel to fix the tire. Yes I used tires but in an exclusive you know what isn’t covered vs inclusive.

The three warranties I am aware of
Inclusive
Exclusive
Bumper to bumper

Inclusive is the worst

Looking to purchase a 14 cla45 amg very low miles and good service records thinking of a warrnty what would be the best option

We bought an extended warranty for our Odyssey years ago, from Saccucci Honda for 50% of the cost the local dealer was charging. We were in CA and at that time, there was no law against getting a warranty from out of state. Saccucci now states: “We are sorry but due to California Insurance law, California residents are not eligible for online service contracts. Please contact your local dealer.” The warranty paid off for us, transmission, suspension, sliding door, catalytic all went bad in a few years. Are there outfits in CA that sell extended Honda warranties at a significant discount?

Price on a good extended warranty is going to be very dependent on vehicle, age and mileage. What do you have?

Maybe gonna get another Odyssey

Did Curry honda tell you that as well?

Just so I’m not promoting spoon feeding, could you give a bit more info? I know a broker that will sell Fidelity warranties to California residents at good rates. But “significant discount” is a relative statement.

What year? What’s your budget? How much coverage?

Saccuchi and Curry honda sell HondaCare Extended warranties for roughly $1500 vs $3000+ at a local dealer. No one else will beat them and if CA passed a law preventing you from getting a Honda warranty out of state, well that’s going to be an issue

For what coverage? Any honda with any mileage?

Edit: If I’m correct, its for 2020 or newer with less than 36,000 miles. Curious how long and how many miles $1500 gets you - could be a great deal.

Also that law is for every car extended warranty in California, not just Honda unfortunately.

I gave you an example, you cannot just say which and which, but it’s roughly 50% off Dealer Honda Care.

Honda Care is Bumper to Bumper (See my earlier post about that) and it’s an incredible warranty.
