Volvo verifies the ABA membership now?

Just got this info from a dealer when negotiating over a Volvo car. I was told that you have to be a member for at least 3 months, otherwise they won’t accept the pin.

Wonder if this varies by membership type. I.e., if a lawyer signs up now, can they still generate a pin? Whereas someone “interested in the law” has to wait 90 days?

ABA membership does not state type of member per my digital card. Honestly not surprising given the recent signups from here. Any good thing gets ruined when abused, at least they are still allowing it for folks.

@ylorn - can you ask the dealer how gifted PINs work on this verification? I was looking to gift a couple of my PINs to family.

I guess that dealer is a waste of time then. The ABA does not require you to be a lawyer to be a member. I’m not sure about the others.

Until I see a letterhead from Volvo saying the same.

I don’t get why dealers like to play games. Had one try to tell me buyer had to be a lawyer. Showed up to sign with pin and it was fine

Yeah, I am going to do the same. I asked him to exclude the ABA rebates and give me a quote. If I am happy with the numbers, I will go to his place with the pin and ask him to submit it. I don’t believe pin will fail.

I got a PIN from a lawyer friend, submitted it last night when I was signing at the dealership, and had no problems.

I heard it today from 2 dealer… apparently there was an internal communication on that…
I don’t know how do they check that… if the Pin is not approved then the membership money won’t be reimbursed I assume

His account would likely be older than 90 days tho, no?

This is easily believably true, someone from corporate saw what was going on here and they killed the PIN’s, it’s really not hard to believe at all. What do you think is gonna happen when half the Volvo dealers in the country suddenly start getting calls asking for 299/mo XC90’s and they all have ABA PIN’s?

No, most of my lawyer friends said they aren’t members as it doesn’t do much for them. My friend just joined recently to get the PIN.

But did he get the Pin today?? Apparently that memo was released this morning…

So if you generated a PIN previously you should be ok?

This is really unfortunate for people who are lawyers and can’t take advantage of the ABA discount now…

I never joined the ABA because as someone above said, there was no real incentive. Now there is an incentive and you are being limited…lol

Is that for sure across the nation? I was about to pull the trigger and become a member today. If it doesn’t work, I wont go for it.

I am in TX and can verify I was just told this too. Wonder if it was the same dealership
