I am kinda low key shopping for the same thing (also have a 3 and 5 yo) and I am worried that the new SL and LC500 would be too tight (potentially unsafe) for the kids in the back. The space seems inadequate even for smaller kids, they can maybe sit with legs crossed though not sure how long before they start complaining. Otherwise LC looks and sounds amazing. It should also hold its value the best, being a Lexus and having a proven NA V8.
I have also come to the conclusion that the 4 series seems to be the best value considering the space, price, and the powertrain. Maybe an M4 convertible if you are looking for something a little special? My G87 M2 is scary good dynamically, I would expect the G83 M4 to be even better with the xDrive and the more boosted S58…
I don’t really care about tech. I’ll get a carplay module for it. Besides that I’d rather not have an iPad in my car and prefer buttons over touch screens.
Yeah can def get a 4 cheap a couple years old. I used to have an sc430 was a great car never had an issue and it was high mileage. Bought it for my dad when he retired. I still haven’t driven the LC yet. My main thing is safety and space in the back seat as well and there’s not much out there besides the s. Unless you go phantom drophead I still have a few more mill to make and years to go before that’s an option anyway. But perfect for sofla when the time comes.
The air is cold, but the sun it hot. You freeze your butt off wearing a sweater while getting sun burned on your face. That’s how you experience a convertible in San Diego most of the time.
I’ve been shopping for S560 cabriolets and coupes for the past month. Seems like prices have gone down for the '19 and '20 model years. If you have any that you think I should take a look at, drop me a PM!
S65 isn’t an easy car to find so likely wouldn’t be from benz. Not sure cpo is worth the extra money they will charge anyway if you can get a solid aftermarket warranty.
Was quoted 2600 for 4 years from prestige lambo in north Miami. Have to read the fine print tho. Of course that car is like 15k over market value too
I had a 6 year old and a 4 year old in the back of an SL for a coupel of days this summer and they hated it. But they loved the 4 series loaner we had…
Yeah I’m gonna go look at bmw again. Will def be much more budget friendly. Other option is just spend it all on a new suv and continue to share a car with the wife. Prob the smart move since we put 5k on the tundra last year between both of us and never needed a car at the same time…I just miss having something fun to drive. Especially since I can pretty much tax deduct the whole thing.
A wondering if any aftermarket warranty experts can comment on this plan. I can’t figure out exactly what even would be covered. Of course they don’t list that. I’ve never bought an aftermarket warranty
Looks like standard language for an exclusionary warranty. IANAL, but as long as you are not directly impacted by anything in the exclusions then it should be covered. I’d even go as far to say you should try to be one step away from any of the exclusions, so if an issue could be tied to something that is excluded (i.e. transmission issues related to the cooling lines which are excluded), I would expect some pain when making a claim.
Fun tidbit, the S class convertibles have less space in the back than the E class due to the size of the seats. I would try finding a new/CPO E53 and financing that as that would be the most fun in your price range, not to mention you get 90% of the amenities of the S-class.
