I was trying to see it as sarcasm but I wasn’t getting it.
Certain things weren’t as with everything once you get used to the system and start finding positives if whatever you have left. Like everyone had the same toys, furniture and there was no need to keep up with the Jones because you just could not really buy unless you were approved to do so by the communist party.
I remember food lines, I remember those stupid ration card that you buy only a certain amount of food.
I remember we had to grow our food like potatoes on whatever small land was given to us even though we lived on the military base in an apartment building. Kindergartens with 30 toddlers for 2 teacher and metal potties.
These are just the most vivid parts.
Are you talking about the 90’s or the post war 50’s, lol? I don’t consider what happened in the 90’s being “Socialism”, but actually a sharp turn to capitalism without knowing what the hell they were doing. If fact, Gorbachev was gradually changing the economic policy, which would have been the right approach, before he got ousted.
You can blame the government all you want, but Japanese were abiding by the same standards, yet they made reliable cars. Besides, it took US manufacturers 50 years to catch up, if you consider their modern cars decent?
I’m not that old to personally live through post WW2. Those times I know only from grandparents generation stories and recent historical archives.
I only lived 80s and 90s yet we were told and believed we are building communism.
In the US we are told we are building nothing, but to fear everything. We have tons of social programs, no one is calling that Socialism. But when you try fix or expand a few more, suddenly it’s death and destruction.
I’m not giving you any choices:) We are all adults and can me our own choices.
I’m just happy we are allowed in this country to actually have choices, unlike communism style uniformity.
I’m not sure on that lately. PC police is very harsh these days going with “If you aren’t with us then you are by default with them”. Either socialist or fascist/racist. I don’t get that binary labeling.
Their banks enjoyed unrestricted capitalism when it was good times. In recession, suddenly it’s guverment, please help us, we are dying! Sounds very familiar.
