Trying for sub-$400 2017 Volvo S90

No software update yet, I’m still waiting for them to give me some direction.

Like I said before it can operate on 1 port its just Volvo has to update thier software. Why they put only 1 your guess is as good as mine.

I would absolutely go back to your local dealer, if you have been working with a sales person just send an email. The deal I got is good I think, I got the 2018 T6 Inscription MSRP $63.5 and I’m paying $384 (includes 6% tax) a month, with $2300 at signing which includes 4 MSD’s, $700 without MSD’s, 30 months w/10k miles. So that was about a ~$22k discount.

I would hold off talking to any dealer and definitely wait till later this month and see what happens. It’s my plan. Sales slow around Christmas and New Years.

I found the source of my confusion regarding your car. This page says:

Android Auto allows you to interface your Android smartphone with your Volvo. It provides the ease and functionality of your phone while connecting to your Volvo for a safer driving experience. It is currently only available for 2017 XC90/S90 models equipped with two USB ports.

So the 2017 cars need to have two USB ports.

I was feeling proud about my deal on a 2017 T6 Momentum AWD… $58k MSRP, 14% off MSRP before incentives, ~$370/month before taxes 0 down, 36/12k. And then you came along :sob: How much off MSRP is that before incentives? How did you pull it off?!

His deal was excellent, especially for FL, but there was an extra 1500 in incentives at end of November which helped. His % discount might not have been greater than yours, but it was a 2018, so higher residual.

There are good and bad things about FL dealers, one of the pluses is that we have some of the largest dealerships in the US. So that means they have to move inventory and lots of it. It took me about 2 to 3 weeks of negotiating to get that deal. I kept an eye on inventory levels looking at thier the websites and used it against them knowing they weren’t moving the S90’s. I was persistent, patient and I never budged from demanding the discount I wanted. I think in the end they ultimately just wanted me a deal and I got a bit lucky. The only reason I made the offer on the Inscription is because the wife really liked the black/amber color combo and it was the only T6 they had on the lot. I’m going to try again for a XC90 but can’t imagine they’ll give me the car I want for the price I want.

My thought is that if you really want a great deal it’s just to early in the month. Volvo is delivering more S90’s than dealers are selling and on top of that they’ll need to hit end of the year sales goals. Some one will want to end up simply moving a unit, it would also help if you were dealing with the sales manager. Worst case is that you just get one at your already negotiated price.

Thanks! Very different approach than what I’ve been doing. I’ll try to identify some of the larger dealers near me and try this on some 2018s once we get a little closer to the end of the month

Hopefully we get some more incentives too!

In the Americas region, Volvo reported a robust 6.8 per cent sales increase year-on-year for the month of November following strong sales of the XC90, new XC60 and the S90.

Will be interesting to see if they want to finish 2017 with a numbers bang or slow it down and focus on profitability. Thanks for posting.

What’s interesting is that in the report it says Volvo only increases sales in the US only 1.7% for November from 2016 to 2017 and YTD sales are down by 1.1%. The 6.8% growth is for all the Americans Region, in the US sales are slowing down.

Yes, but the loss is due to the old S60/V60/XC60 design - no one wants them now.

I sat in a used 2016 XC60 this weekend right after sitting in a 2017 S90 (at Carmax as I was awaiting a vehicle appraisal) and there is really no amount of discounting available where I would choose the old model XC60 over the new. They would literally have to give it to me.

So, surprise surprise. The dealer was not able to upgrade my car’s software. So I’m out of that deal with a clean conscience! Still haven’t gotten a formal quote for my 14% off MSRP deal… going to bug that dealer now.

I’ve been playing around with 2018 numbers a bit, but they aren’t great… For 12K/36:

2017 vs 2018

  • T5 FWD Momentum: 46% and 0.00025 vs. 45% and .00040
  • T5 AWD Momentum: 47% and 0.00038 vs. 45% and .00040
  • T6 AWD Momentum: 46% and 0.00036 vs. 46% and .00080
  • T6 AWD Inscription: 46% and 0.00022 vs. 43% and .00022

I’m really going to have to get the sales price down before incentives if I’m going to be able to afford a 2018… I would like that panoramic sunroof though

Have you tried 24 or 30 months? There may be a sweet spot where 24 month residual is 8 or 9% higher than 36 month. The residuals fell in November and the incentive increase didn’t make up the difference, except for the 1.5 weeks around black friday.

2018 inscription is a sweet spot compared to T6 Momentum due to same RV and much lower MF. The key is to find a relatively thinly equipped one to bring the total MSRP.

For me I would choose a 2017 as these are made in Sweden. 2018’s are made in China.

Yeah 2018 s90 wheels are falling off

Yeah, the 2018 T6 Inscription @24 has 9% higher RV than @36. T5s are 8% higher. T6 Momentum 7%. I’ll play with those numbers later tonight and see what I can come up with.

Interestingly, I just tried my 2017 T6 Momentum with 24 month, and it’s almost exactly the same price per month as 36 months. I’ll have to consider that more carefully…

2017 is 4.5" shorter, so if you don’t regularly seat people in 2nd row, the shorter length will be easier to park.

It doesn’t matter it is was the XC90, V60, S60 or whatever, the simple fact is that sales are down this year. Saying nobody might be the logical reason but business dictates they grow, not shrink. Sales being behind I would think is a positive for the consumer because Volvo and dealerships need to move more cars to catch up and beat last year’s numbers. The US is a huge market and if Volvo wants to keep growing they need to move more vehicles and show they can obtain growth in the US.

I’m not surprised, the nice folks at Volvo have been communicating with me and letting me know they are trying to figure it out and come up with a solution. They are actually presenting some generous options as a solution. Once I get the details I’ll post an update but I’ll say they are stepping up and owning the issue so far.

You know that Volvo is building factory in SC, right? It will start producing redesigned 2019 S60 to start with.
