Trying for sub-$400 2017 Volvo S90

Will be interesting to see if they want to finish 2017 with a numbers bang or slow it down and focus on profitability. Thanks for posting.

Whatā€™s interesting is that in the report it says Volvo only increases sales in the US only 1.7% for November from 2016 to 2017 and YTD sales are down by 1.1%. The 6.8% growth is for all the Americans Region, in the US sales are slowing down.

Yes, but the loss is due to the old S60/V60/XC60 design - no one wants them now.

I sat in a used 2016 XC60 this weekend right after sitting in a 2017 S90 (at Carmax as I was awaiting a vehicle appraisal) and there is really no amount of discounting available where I would choose the old model XC60 over the new. They would literally have to give it to me.

So, surprise surprise. The dealer was not able to upgrade my carā€™s software. So Iā€™m out of that deal with a clean conscience! Still havenā€™t gotten a formal quote for my 14% off MSRP dealā€¦ going to bug that dealer now.

Iā€™ve been playing around with 2018 numbers a bit, but they arenā€™t greatā€¦ For 12K/36:

2017 vs 2018

  • T5 FWD Momentum: 46% and 0.00025 vs. 45% and .00040
  • T5 AWD Momentum: 47% and 0.00038 vs. 45% and .00040
  • T6 AWD Momentum: 46% and 0.00036 vs. 46% and .00080
  • T6 AWD Inscription: 46% and 0.00022 vs. 43% and .00022

Iā€™m really going to have to get the sales price down before incentives if Iā€™m going to be able to afford a 2018ā€¦ I would like that panoramic sunroof though

Have you tried 24 or 30 months? There may be a sweet spot where 24 month residual is 8 or 9% higher than 36 month. The residuals fell in November and the incentive increase didnā€™t make up the difference, except for the 1.5 weeks around black friday.

2018 inscription is a sweet spot compared to T6 Momentum due to same RV and much lower MF. The key is to find a relatively thinly equipped one to bring the total MSRP.

For me I would choose a 2017 as these are made in Sweden. 2018ā€™s are made in China.

Yeah 2018 s90 wheels are falling off

Yeah, the 2018 T6 Inscription @24 has 9% higher RV than @36. T5s are 8% higher. T6 Momentum 7%. Iā€™ll play with those numbers later tonight and see what I can come up with.

Interestingly, I just tried my 2017 T6 Momentum with 24 month, and itā€™s almost exactly the same price per month as 36 months. Iā€™ll have to consider that more carefullyā€¦

2017 is 4.5" shorter, so if you donā€™t regularly seat people in 2nd row, the shorter length will be easier to park.

It doesnā€™t matter it is was the XC90, V60, S60 or whatever, the simple fact is that sales are down this year. Saying nobody might be the logical reason but business dictates they grow, not shrink. Sales being behind I would think is a positive for the consumer because Volvo and dealerships need to move more cars to catch up and beat last yearā€™s numbers. The US is a huge market and if Volvo wants to keep growing they need to move more vehicles and show they can obtain growth in the US.

Iā€™m not surprised, the nice folks at Volvo have been communicating with me and letting me know they are trying to figure it out and come up with a solution. They are actually presenting some generous options as a solution. Once I get the details Iā€™ll post an update but Iā€™ll say they are stepping up and owning the issue so far.

You know that Volvo is building factory in SC, right? It will start producing redesigned 2019 S60 to start with.

Even more of a reason that they need to move inventory. Their current sales numbers are low for the industry, they simply need to move inventory and get more cars out on the road.

I finally saw my an advertisement for the new XC60 for payments in the $400ā€™s, so I think they will start loosing things up soon. They have a good product (although still in its infancy), they just need more volume moved.

Thatā€™s what park assist is for!

Playing with Inscription numbers

For a $61K car, Iā€™d need a 20% off MSRP discount before incentives to get me to $400/month with 9% tax and $0 down. Seems unlikely.

2017 Lease

For the same car Iā€™d need a 16% discount with 2017 incentives/RV. Could be doableā€¦ the same dealer that I have 14% off with has a 2017 Inscription for this price.

I am just now starting my search but I am in the market for a very similar deal on the S90. I know you are looking for a sub 400 deal but have you come across any that would get you to 425/mo. Any chance you are on the east coast?

Iā€™m in PA.

This is where Iā€™m currently at on a T6 Momentum AWD: leasehackr.com/calculator?make=Volvo&msrp=58190&sales_price=50200&months=36&mf=.00036&dp=-2150&doc_fee=300&acq_fee=995&taxed_inc=13000&untaxed_inc=0&rebate=0&resP=46&reg_fee=400&sales_tax=9&memo=&monthlyTax_radio=true&miles=12000&msd=0

Hoping I can get that lower by the end of the month.

I just played with some numbers. Should be possible to get a T5 FWD Momentum to $400/month: leasehackr.com/calculator?make=Volvo&msrp=52190&sales_price=45200&months=36&mf=.00025&dp=-1900&doc_fee=300&acq_fee=995&taxed_inc=11250&untaxed_inc=0&rebate=0&resP=46&reg_fee=400&sales_tax=9&memo=&monthlyTax_radio=true&miles=12000&msd=0

Did you get the 14% off MSRP from the combo of Aplan (~$3500) and the HSE (~4500)
