Alright, I’m just gonna say what everyone is thinking. Where’s the TRX?
Wait, I just answered my own question. It’s based off % of MSRP, so even a 10k markup on a 90k truck is only a little above 10%, which isn’t even close to last place.
How did G63 not make the list
They are in their own league, I swear I have seen 100% markup on those. INSANE!!
Maybe the data was calculated on volume
Surprised that it’s not Tundra
Whos paying that much for a GLB
Doesn’t surprise me at all. If this is just based on online listings, most new cars are “listed” at MSRP.
This would look completely different if it was final sale price.
You think they sold that many Maverick and Maverick Hybrids?
iseecars isn’t good data imo. The wrangler markup feels wrong to me, there’s a huge variety of MSRPs in that car from low 30s to 80k+.
Do they calc that markup on MSRP or base MSRP? Statistics taught me something after all.
My college stat class taught me to first find the methodology. The methodology section here is inadequate.
“iSeeCars analyzed over 1.2 million new cars listed for sale between February 1 and March 25, 2022, and compared their list price to their MSRP.”
So this isn’t markup on sold vehicles this is markup on listings. Says nothing about actual sales price which is sort of important. It also doesn’t explain how they factor in dealer add ones. A lot of dealer add ones look like value adds so they aren’t a mark-up, you pay more to get more. Of course most dealer add ons are just a way to charge more without giving something of much value (lojack, nitro filled tired).
The metholodoly does explain why something like the G63 is not listed. They did not include low volume models.
My whole point - it’s flawed data and analysis in, so flawed output.
Hard to find any on the lot in SoCal… and when I last looked they had $10k markup… on a ~$25k MSRP.
What dealer is selling Macans for $13k over MSRP and are they hiring?
I’m also very fascinated by statistics. This is a great book you should check out.
I was actually in a maverick the other day. I can’t believe people pay what they do for them. Felt so cheap. Which is probably the purpose of them that Ford intended as they start like under 20k msrp. But paying 35-40 for one is insane when you can get a Tacoma that will lose no value. Once/if Ford starts pumping out Mavericks these people are going to lose so much.

Hmmm, that Bill Gates blurb seems suspect, like he didn’t actually read this book.
This book and “lies, damned lies, and statistics” are fascinating. Not trying to get into a gates discussion just good books about the subject of stat
