TIP! Save 2k on Volvo lease with ABA membership -- you don't have to be a lawyer

I just saved 2k on my Volvo lease with an ABA membership. And I’m not even a lawyer. Turns out that anyone can join the ABA. Even better, it’s FREE for students. Or maybe you have a friend or relative who’s already a member. They can get a pin and share it with you. Worst case, you pay $195 for the year membership (it’s a tax write-off), and essentially save $1800.

I think there’s an ABA discount with Mercedes too but not sure of details.

So pin holder did not need to sign?

I used ABA fleet with Mercedes last year and I distinctly remember the dealer required me to submit proof of matching name/address between the ABA account and the lease (which I found odd).

I’m not sure if this was to satisfy the dealer, manufacturer, or the ABA.

Prob can’t double dip Amex fleet and Aba Fleet

Here’s more info from ABA on who can be a member – essentially anyone with an interest in the ABA – along with info on “sponsoring” (basically sharing) a pin. It doesn’t look like you need the same address as official ABA member, but I can’t be sure.

Not as far as I know, but I’m not sure about exact terms of sharing a pin.
You can read more info here. https://www.americanbar.org/membership/aba_advantage_discounts/volvo/

Anyone know if there is a waiting period? Or if you join today and pay $200 you could get an immediate pin?

There is only one way to figure out;) if you do - let me know too:)

There’s no waiting period. And another negotiating tip… negotiate the best discount on msrp first. Then ask dealer to add in ABA discount.

Problem with Mercedes is that the ABA rebate doesn’t stack with the better Amex Fleet incentives. The ABA one is $9,500 on EQS, but $14,000 with Amex.

There were rumblings ABA was going away altogether on Volvo but not sure how true that was. It is not a known benefit to many people and lawyer folks I know who have ABA were unaware of it (or even on Mercedes).

I’m hoping Volvo likes the increased sales/leases it might bring instead of reducing the amount or getting rid of it altogether.

Just beware I brought this in after I had negotiated a dealer discount and the dealer promptly increased their price by $2000 because they said they weren’t aware of it when we initially spoke. Certainly they can do this. It’s up to them. I was a little surprised because I thought Volvo was reimbursing them for this rebate, so I don’t know why they wanna make the discount lower. Maybe because they think they can sell it to someone else who has this pin and not have to discount it as much

Some dealers are going to find the tactic of “playing your hand slowly” to be underhanded and won’t work with you after that.
The best way is to send them a well researched offer including all the incentives you qualify for with a “i’ll come and sign in an hour (or specific time frame you can actually show up in) for this price, I qualify for blah blah”.

That was exactly my plan until I saw this post about an additional $2000 lol and I scrambled and got a pin but by that time I had already gotten a quote

Seems to be only on EVs and Hybrids

Also, i’m not sure on Volvo but some brands the third party incentives override other dealer incentives, sometimes they stack.
