Tesla leases do not permit buyouts.
Since they don’t pass on the federal rebate in a lease, the TCO still favors purchasing.

Ah darn. He drives enough that if he leases he’ll have to buy it out. It’s a unique situation.
Why can’t he just buy it to begin with?
I’m guessing “cash flows”
An interesting observation on the MX…
The Plaid comes standard with 6 seat configuration at $106,380 inc destination, The LR charges a $6,500 upgrade which results in $102,880 inc destination.
The effective price difference between a Plaid and a LR is $3,500.

Damn are you saying just buy a plaid it’s the bargain?
I refused delivery of my S Order they tried to push on me the last week of the year as I felt prices had to come down. I felt $10-15k. Now we are at what $20k on the S and X.
Now the question is, when and where is the bottom?
If I was in the market for a new MX, I would pick plaid over LR with such a minimal price difference.
If Elon wants all hell to break loose, he would lower the MX to 80K to qualify for the 7.5k rebate and that would be the absolute bottom.
The MRM for a MXP balloon loan is $160K on an MSRP as low as $106K.
24/7.5k no tax (NJ) @ 5% interest (SEFCU) = $1481/mo ![]()

I can understand the appeal for the 3 and the Y - at the price point, you get a lot of car for the money.
But what’s the deal with the X and S? Why should they be worth anything remotely near 100k? They’re fast and have good range, but that’s it. Zero luxury features, they’re a dime a dozen out there so there’s minimal brand cachet… what’s the big appeal? In my opinion, the S should be priced at 60k and the X at 80k to be competitive.
Have you’ve driven an S?
3 and Y and all the other EVs like the ID.4, Mach-E, Ioniq 5 (I’ve owned all listed) are cheap and budgety. The S has air suspension, wicked performance acceleration, and a nice 22 speaker audio system. The comparable car is an BMW i4 M50 (I’ve owned an i4 e40).
I currently drive an Ioniq 5 Limited and it’s meh. Once you taste air suspension it’s hard to go back. Also the Ioniq 5 Bose system is so bad I can’t believe they even called this a premium audio system.
I’ve been driven in an S multiple times but have never driven one myself. Your point is well taken, I should drive one and see what the fuss is all about.
Also once you start getting into 100kwh+ battery packs that is when EV’s start getting expensive. Goes for most brands.
Yep, that’s pretty much why the iX is where it is price wise @ 111kWh.
I’m wondering if they will bring the 40e over to compete for the MY market.
Bottom is when fed stops dropping interest rates
It has not been enough time to fully process the price changes into wholesale values, but this was another strong week that saw appreciation across many models, continuing a multi-week trend.

*** appears to be illogical.
Thanks for posting this! I agree both the 2023 model 3 and y performance versions look illogical when compared to the same 21-22 numbers. Maybe there aren’t enough transactions?
I hope this is an okay place to ask:
I am supposed to take delivery of a new Model 3 RWD late next week. How do I go about asking for the new $1,000 price cut? Will there be pushback -or- it will be no problem adjusting since I haven’t taken delivery yet?
If the new price is lower than your current price, they usually will discount it. At least they did that for me a few years ago.
Do you have an SA you can ask?
