Sold one to VROOM!

Not related to selling a car to Vroom, but the guys at The Fast Lane got royally hosed by Vroom when they were buying a BMW i8. Vroom “lost” their check. $62k certified funds went “poof” and it cost the TFL guys $1200 to stop payment on the check. Really bad situation and Vroom pee’d down their corporate leg throughout this whole thing. They haven’t stepped up in the least to help. Really bad situation.

Update: I called Vroom and asked to move this along since a label was created and nothing was moving for 6 days. I asked them to mail it another way or mail it again . They sent paperwork again. Received it today and mailed back.

When did you ask them to mail it again? Did it show up overnight? I’m going to call first thing tomorrow for them to do it! Did they give you a tracking for the second time as well?

I called Wednesday afternoon and they sent it that night. I received it yesterday afternoon. I believe it made it back there already. I told them tracking wasn’t moving and they said they would escalate it and get it sent out.

Hey @muc2phx , did you have any luck selling your leased Infiniti to Vroom? I am also looking to sell mine. I tried going thru Carvana but they don’t buy leases from Infiniti. I was wondering if you were able to get it done thru Vroom. Thanks!

My 16" Rav4 was picked up by transportation company yesterday. I forgot to remove the tags, VROOM is refusing to return any item that came with the car. MVA (MD state) is asking me to report it as a lost or stolen and get police report in order to get tags canceled. Anyone had similar situation?
Also, VROOM does not provide clear and same answer, and vehicle inspection time takes 3-5 business days after they receive the vehicle.
I would have accept Carmax offer, if I knew how selling car to Vroom is not easy and time consuming.

Can’t you report the plates missing/lost/stolen instead of reporting the car stolen?

Interesting news on Vroom

“Said another way, we bought more inventory than we could actually process and that excess inventory needed to be moved in Q4 and will continue to be moved in Q1,” Vroom CEO Paul Hennessy told analysts on an earnings call."

I sold mine recently to them. Being 2nd year into 3year lease, then noticed they sold it for only 500$ more than they paid me. Not much profit for them on mine then, unless they offered loan.

Update on my situation with Vroom/AFS: AFS 10-day payoff was good through 2/12/21. Vroom sent check to AFS on 2/11/21 and wasn’t received and processed by AFS until 2/18 due to the snowstorm and delays in Memphis.

I have called AFS 4 times now because my account has not updated to show zero balance, etc. They said that Vroom needs to call them to discuss why the payoff was received after the quoted date, and it seemed like they wouldn’t send them the title until they spoke with Vroom. They also said that my account should be updated in the next week because their payoff dept is running behind (been saying that for 2 weeks now), and kept reiterating that they payoff would be backdated to when it was received etc., so I wouldn’t be responsible for any late fees.

I suspect there’s something owed to AFS because the check arrived after the 10-day window, but AFS didn’t indicate that when I asked, so who knows what is going to happen. They are going to follow-up with me next week to see if my account has been updated. I called my rep at Vroom and told him about the situation, so let’s see how quickly Vroom tries to resolve this with AFS. What a poopshow.

Hi guys,

Sold my 2017 Mazda CX-5 touring edition (metallic grey) (22K miles) lease to Vroom via Mazda Capital Services. Got a quote from Carvana also which was close to the chase buyout price of $16,340. Sold to Vroom for $18,832 and got check for the difference. Here is a breakdown of the process. Got quotes online - Sent documents to Vroom - called Chase to get lease payout agreement - sent agreement to Vroom - vroom mailed a document to me through fedex to be signed and sent back - set up a date and pickup time for vehicle - vehicle picked up - check sent to bank for payoff and to me via Fedex on same day. The whole process took about a week and half due to delays with snowstorms.

Only strange part of the transaction was the pickup. The guy who was picking up vehicle came on foot without a tow truck. He took pictures of the vehicle and sent me a bill of lading (proof of pickup) via email on the spot. I asked if I could take a picture of the car on the tow truck for my records. He said it was parked 2 blocks away because my block was too narrow. I said I would walk over and meet him to take a quick picture. He proceeded to back up my block really fast and then took off with the vehicle. I jogged over the see if I could see the tow truck and it was gone. It was pretty scary since all I had was this email and the car was gone. I am still not sure if he even had a tow truck or if he just drove the car with no plates and with it still insured/registered in my name. I ended up calling his dispatch office because the vehicle was supposed to be delivered that day and ended up taking two days to arrive. Anyway that part was stressful but it all worked out in the end. Enjoying my 2021 CX-5 Carbon Edition!

So these jokers at Vroom sent the payoff check to the wrong Toyota processing center - not the address on the Payoff Quote. Now my account is past due - has this happened to anyone else?

yeah i saw address mismatch too. But thought may be they know the address based on thier past Toyota transactions. My account is also past due. But Toyota had said they have 10 days grace period from due date.

Yeah I canceled my auto pay last week and am also past due. After 10 days late fees will begin. Trying to get this finalized ASAP because I don’t want this to drag on and potentially affect my credit. AFS is extremely slow.

I ended up reporting to police station in my county. They provided the report number that tag was lost/stolen. Provided that to dmv, canceled the insurance. Vroom stating they haven’t received the car, and inspection wasn’t done. Therefore they are not able to process the check. The car was picked up on Tuesday. I see some people received the check same week. Anyone had similar problem?

Finally got all the vroom paperwork done. Now waiting for carrier to pick up my car so I can get the check. I’ll report back once I get the track #s. Vroom already posted my car for sale on their website!

anyone have experience using Vroom with a VW lease? I’m about to do so and I have a bad feeling its going to be a pain in the ass. Takes me an hour to get through to anyone with VW Credit, I can’t imagine trying to coordinate a 3 way call with them and Vroom…

Search the thread, there are plenty of datapoints with VW and AFS (my posts talk about my experience over the past month or so).

So I called TFS and turns out Vroom did mess up and sent it to the wrong address. They sent it to loan payoff address instead of lease  TFS said they can try to reroute but I did not get the confidence that it will happen. So called Vroom to ask them resend it to correct address but stuck on phone with them getting thrown from one agent to other. It’s been a bad experience so far.

Quick question. My lease on my Grand Cherokee overland ends in a little over 2 months. I’m already 8000 miles over. Vroom quoted me $600 less than buyout. If I just return it to Chrysler Capital would have to pay over 2k in excess miles plus the $395 fee. Is my best option to sell to Vroom? I will appreciate any advice.
