I’ve been keeping tabs on when MFS or a 3rd party captive would pass the PHEV credit on a lease for this newly released CX-90 PHEV. All the dealers laughed and said I was wrong when I inquired about this in May and said it would never happen. Well, Ally started passing this credit to lessees this month.
On the other hand, I’ve been watching used car values steadily drop. Most buyout offers from the usual suspects were way under current payoff of our CX-9. Registration was due soon. There was a huge side to side crack on the windshield that I was quoted consistently around $1k to replace, even from the cheapo cash places I used to use.
I eventually found one place that offered above payoff for the CX-9, even with the cracked windshield. Local dealer matched that offer, and honored Costco pricing on the CX-90 with the $500 loyalty and $7500 PHEV credit through Ally. This took 3 days or back and forth to get done, as the dealer had never done an Ally lease before and had to wait to get the physical lease contracts in store and went back and forth on the phone with Ally to get the contract written correctly to reduce the chance of a kickback. Dealer also sent me copies of the buyout terms on the back of the contract before I sent my wife to sign.
“If this is a monthly payment lease, the price to buy the vehicle before the scheduled lease end date is: (1) the Residual Value, plus (2) the base monthly payment times the number of payments not yet due, minus (3) any unearned rent charge figured by the Actuarial Method based on the number of full monthly periods between early end and scheduled end.”
This is similar language to the CX-5, CX-9, and Santa Fe leases, which I bought out or sold early with no other rent charges due.

Was able to register on Ally portal one week after I took delivery and bought out immediately. No drama here for CA at least. Purchasing directly would have cost $62,732.68. Lease to buyout cost $55,875.94 after all said and done.
