Good job getting an out of state dealer to not bork the NJ EV tax rate. There’s NJ dealers that get it wrong.

I’m really digging these. How do you like it so far?

There’s been a lot of this kind of question lately. I think it’s important for people to understand that A) Salespeople usually work on commission and really don’t want to get a deal like this where they are guaranteed a minimum payout and B) The average dealership salesperson has zero authority to do a deal like this. Deals like this are generally achieved by reaching out to Sales Managers/General Managers and making them offers. Nobody wants to lose money (at least on the front end) on a car but there could be circumstances where it is beneficial to do so (slow selling car that’s starting to cost them money in floorplan costs, a particular sales goal with a bonus attached, etc.) A manager is the person who can make those decisions and probably has more knowledge of how to desk a lease than the average salesperson. Engage with them and let them give their favorite salesperson the free gift of a small commission sale that comes with no effort on their part and an excellent customer survey from you when it’s done.

I agree with this 100% @ElectricEliminator . The reason I asked for the salesperson is because usaually you have to jump through ropes to get on the phone with the manager.

Thanks! I make sure to highlight that point when presenting my offer. I find it helps soften the impact of my aggressive proposal, especially with out-of-state dealers who are used to higher tax rates.

As for New Jersey dealers, I’ll take your word for it—I haven’t been able to get that far with them. I usually just get quick rejections, which I actually appreciate since it lets me move on. For some reason, I haven’t had much luck with NJ dealers.

Thanks! Overall, I like it, but I do have some concerns.

Pros:
Fast (600 hp and 617 lb-ft of torque)
Comfortable interior, with nice touches like massage seats
Some good tech features

Cons:
Being a first-year model, there’s potential for reliability issues
Propulsion and regenerative braking systems could be more refined
Handling doesn’t quite match the power on tap

It’s not my only car so I was willing to take a chance based on the deal. Time will tell if it was a good choice.

Thanks, much appreciated!

Hopefully you don’t take this the wrong way, but I’m always curious as to the format of the email you submit to begin the conversation with a salesman/manager. Could you share that?

In addition to the feedback provided in an ealier post, I feel the Wagoneer S is overpriced and requires a healthy discount and significant incentive/rebate stack to make it worthwhile. It’s a nice SUV at the right price, but I guess that is subjective.

I’d also like to piggy back this

I am polite but direct in my approach. I establish my intention, provide the details of my proposal in a format similar to my original post and close with expressing that I’m a serious buyer that is ready to provide a deposit. I include the vin and/or stock number when possible to make it easy for the sales manager to review and respond.

I don’t have the affiliate rebate but I don’t see any of the BEV dealer coupons on this deal. I assume I could try to get the dealer to include those and they would stack with the other rebates?

They took 11 grand off the sales price before customer rebates. Guarantee that $5,000 of that is BEV Coupons. This month they are allowed to use 5 on a Wagoneer S.

100% what i thought when i looked at the numbers. The 5k in BEV coupons is in there. I believe they are a dealer incentive, so they can apply them that way.

Very nice deal! Congrats! Hopefully I can find one like this someday lol My local dealer has a 2024 Launch Loaner but they are treating it like gold and that it should have a $500 payment.

You never know what you are going to get from a dealer. I have $20,500 in incentives, including affiliate, conquest, and private offer. I asked a dealer to start at the affiliate pricing, subtract $5k in BEV coupons and apply the $20,500 in incentives. He would not even consider it.

I inquired about the BEV coupons when negotiating this deal and the GSM suggested they didn’t recieve any because they are a low volume BEV store. They are a family owned single dealer lot with not much inventory in general.

Not sure if that was accurate but I didn’t care much because we were able to arrive at a deal slightly below my target.
