So you want to prepay for the privilege of … returning a car with bald tires?

Which means that even after they’re worn you’ll continue to be driving on them? Because let’s call it like it is, no one buys tires if they think they’ll get away with not buying them.

OP, absolutely cancel the packages. Family has leased German brands for almost a decade and never needed any packages. Even with minor scratches, we were never charged anything when we returned the car. Unless you’ve had severe issues with overages in the past, not really worth it.

It’s actually my first lease. All my previous cars were owned.
But I see where you’re going with this… rather keep these $1600 in my pocket and just pay to change the tires myself when it’s time.
Just filled the form to cancel the Lease End Protection.

Just another data point, my wife got a screw in one of her tires only 2 months after getting the Audi and it couldn’t be patched.

Replacing the tire was ~$300 incl tax + labor. The tire itself could be cheaper if you don’t want exactly matching tires.

So $1600 is like 5 tires. You probably won’t go through the full set of tires. And I don’t even think Lease End even covers tires lol.

Bmw told me same thing 2 weeks into my lease (without even seeing it) so I took it to a tire shop and had it patched for $20. 3 years later still doing fine.

What model Audi?

OP’s deal is for 15k miles/year, so if they drive that much after 3 years, they would have racked up 45k miles. They will probably need a set of new tires (4) + installation + alignment. It might not all add up to $1600, but I doubt it would be less than $1200 for installing brand new tires.

With tires being a “normal wear and tear” item would that be covered under the end of lease protection? I thought that was only for unusual wear and tear/damage.

Probably not. OP can review their contract for any exclusions.

EDIT: I might be wrong. Found some info about Audi lease end protection coverage. I still think OP should look over their contract.

It was a Q4 etron with sport alenza. It was next to the sidewall, was losing air pretty fast. I actually went to a tire shop first and they were gonna charge me $700 with some blessings lol. Went to other tire shops and even Costco and they don’t have it in stock. Everyone said it wasn’t patchable. The tire itself was already like $250 from Big O Tire and American Tire. Ended up going to dealer and paid a little bit above $250 and like $25 labor. Honestly not that bad.

Tires are, for sure, included in the lease-end protection package.

But if you need new tires at 30k miles, that’s going to be an out of pocket expense.

True. Which is why I’ve decided to follow on people’s advice here and cancel the Lease End Protection package. I’ll replace the tires at 30-35K miles by myself and return the car with reasonably used tires (after 10-15K miles).

Have you had an audi before? I will be very surprised if you get more than 25k miles out of a set of oem tires. My last one did 8k miles on the oem continentals before they were at 5/32. I would typically get 25k out of PS4s.

If I were you I would take the oem tires off when they’re still at 6/32 and put those back on for turn in. Then get a set of 45k mile warranty tires like AS4s and rotate them every 5k.

Continentals suck, hate them. And got them on my xc60 now.

Yeah literally nothing redeeming about them yet so many cars come with them.

I got roasted 2 years ago on my 15k miles CX5 deal too…

I don’t think people realize that 15k miles is +100% more car usage (depreciation) than 7.5k miles, and you have pay for it somehow (higher monthly payment).

You can’t compare a 15k lease payment to a 7.5k lease payment.

Looking back, my deal is still now better than most of current cx5 deals on the forum.

Just enjoy your car. You did your research and get what you wanted. Enjoy!

In Socal, all brokers are pricing deals with 7.5k per year, I am not aware with anyone pricing with 10k or 12k, they used to do that before prices went through the roof in 2021, try to go from 7.5k to 15k miles on any german car and you will be shocked of how much it adds.

Keep preaching. I am aware that more and brokers have been advertising deals with 7.5k miles.

8k miles is what I have on my car right now after 7 months of ownership, I traveled for almost 2 months out of those 7 so really it is more like 5.5 months of ownership, once I ask brokers to quote me with 15k miles the price goes through the roof.
Most people just go for the low price but later they get a reality check, so much cars on swap lease with 20 more months and 0 miles left! not sure how they are unloading those!

Usually it’s a change of -4% RV, nothing else changes.
