Avis “mystery car.” He gave me the choice between this and an EV6. Decently equipped with leather, but slightly awkward ergonomics with the large screen.
Is that their version of a manager special? I’ve never heard of a mystery car class. Regardless, I would be satisfied with that. 
Yeah, their version of a manager’s special. By far the cheapest option so I thought I’d take my chances. Definitely not a bad outcome.

I checked them… Costco was still cheaper by $10 
and have tried Autoslash before, was still cheaper with Costco or directly on Hertz with AAA discounts
Used Turo last time at Waikiki strictly because of the parking situation, several Turo’s out of the Kalia Rd Garage that include parking. Rented a nice Lexus NX, this guy even had beach equipment you could rent. Couldn’t beat the convenience.

I’ve never rented with Turo-what was the total per day including fees??? I don’t see anything cheaper than my Avis reservation for my day. I may switch it to Hertz Nissan Rogue $57 all in, better in and out for my height 6’03" and also I pick it up at Hyatt Regency and they have after hours drop off at Royal Hawaiian Garage 
PRO TIP: If you are a Gold Member, don’t go to the second story rental counter, go straight down to the garage (save about an hour and a half haha-I did that to one of my friends one time-just for fun and killing time, he was pissed for waiting there in line-he wasn’t a member when I told him soooo many times to just sign up for it, didn’t listen so I had him make the reservations haha)
This was in 2022, 4 days was $423 and including parking, 2021 Lexus NX, like new condition.

Grabbed a 2024 GLB250 from Hertz President’s Circle in Fort Lauderdale.
They also had an ELB250, but I don’t want to be bothered with charging an EV on vacation. A wide variety of cars available: Camrys, a Mini Cooper, Kias, Explorer, Armada, etc…
The GLB is poorly spec’d and wholly uninspiring. Really challenges the notion that MB is a luxury automaker.
MB has produced non-luxury cars for decades.

No, it doesn’t. Many automakers have introduced options for various segments of the market. Naturally, their $40k car is not going to be as luxurious as their $80k+ cars.
My bad for assuming a $45k GLB ought to be nicer than a $27k Kia Sportage. 
I get why segmentation is important in expanding the market and generating brand loyalty before someone can afford the G-Wagon, but if this GLB was my first MB experience, it certainly wouldn’t encourage any loyalty…
If you think the GLB is worse than the Sportage, then that’s your opinion which is perfectly fine. But if you are saying that you wouldn’t hop into an S Class after driving a GLB, then you are definitely in the minority. Segmentation is not necessarily about building brand loyalty but about providing a seat for every ass, regardless of whether or not the GLB ass will get a G Wagon down the road.

I have eqb, while it’s inferior as ev (doesn’t bother us since I leased it as my wife’s commuter car), IMHO its interior is not luxury but nicer compare to similar ev in this segment (Ariya, Tesla Y, iD4, EV6, Ioniq 5, XC40). YMMV.

Think about the loaners you get.
I take my e-tron GT in and I get a Q5. Last time it was that or an A3. 
If my M550 had to stay, I’d leave in a 330i or (gasp) an X1/X2.
And when I had a V8 E-Class they’d send me home in a C3P0, which when barely pushed sounded like there were shrieking cats under the hood.
Also, I think about rental cars like I think about frozen pizza: each is a genre unto itself, and therefore judged on a different scale.

I just got a white Genesis GV80 for a few days, forgot to take photos. Drove around 800 miles on the rental.
Positives:
Beautiful from the front, interiors are nice too. The lane keeping assist/adaptive cruise control were very smooth and helpful for long distance driving. Sound system was decent, not amazing but good enough. It was spacious, though my trim didn’t have a moonroof. Gas efficiency was great, averaged around 26mpg over many many hours.
Price was also fantastic - $230 through Costco travel for 3 day rental, unlimited miles, and returning it 800 miles away. I think I was upgraded from a normal luxury car which was a Chrysler 300/GV70 sedan.
Negatives:
Road noise was terrible. The tires were Pirelli Scorpion Zero, which is what I was going to put on my EQS, but now am a bit scared (mine have PNCS/EV design though). No wireless Apple CarPlay or USB-C ports feel like a big L for a luxury car. And going from an EV to an ICE felt like I lost all power on the roads, I’ve only had EQS for a month but I definitely can’t go back to ICE. GV80 just felt so slow. Also no 4 wheel steering made it hard to maneuver for parking.
Ultimately it was a pretty great for a rental, but glad I’m back with my EQS now.

Been having good luck with Hertz’s President’s Club lately. Went to Tampa back in January and was able to select a 2024 Toyota Highlander. I don’t remember the trim but it seemed loaded and I liked it a lot.
Our flight ended up getting canceled that night and we needed something to use until the next morning. I ended up snagging a Yukon Denali for $40 but I don’t have real pics of that. Only this screenshot from my walk around video.
Last week I reserved a small SUV for the weekend in Fort Lauderdale. When I got there I saw a bunch of base model Durangos and was about to take one. Then at the last minute I noticed a Volvo XC90, it ended up being a nicely loaded one with about 8k miles on it. This might be my favorite SUV of the ones I’ve driven recently. It was great on gas, pretty quick for what it was and handled nicely.

Picked this up from Honolulu airport. While everyone was waiting on their cars, I picked this one up from Avis preferred aisle (select and go). Apprently, there was a bit shortage of cars there. This was only $250 for 5 days which was cheaper than anything else I was getting from Costco/Autoslash over here.
Kia Sportage with 10k miles on it. Engines a bit underpowered but it still drives really nice and I’m happy with it. I had reserved a convertible previously but decided to downgrade and save $500. Maybe for the next trip I’ll consider a convertible.
