To their credit, some car companies do cheap s-box better than others. Toyota’s fleet vehicles imo drive like Fred Flintstone’s car. Americas do that better (rental subarus are fine).
Yesterday I saw a Nissan Juke, and had forgotten how many hundreds of those I had as rentals, between all the Dodge Stratus and PT Cruisers (a car so ugly, it didn’t even belong in a fleet).
Yep-always enjoying…my buddies on the other hand, fell asleep just past Kualoa Ranch and it was their first time ever on the island I even “opened it up” and they still slept haha
I don’t know man. I saw a mirage with North Carolina plates driving in front of me yesterday on 95 express lanes in Miami and I kid you not, the size of the wheels make my daughters tri-cycle wheels look bigger. Skinny as hell and i wonder how they would even survive SFL rains and flooding. I kept wondering if it was a rental or was the owner really so adventurous to drive down almost a 1000 miles in that thing.
Won’t stop making a long, continuous beeping noise when I try to lock the car, so the battery will probably be dead when I get up. I’ve budgeted time in the morning for a jump start.
At first they offered me an Accord, with the option to pay extra to “upgrade” to a 3 Series or a 4Runner, and then they couldn’t find the keys to the Accord so I got the 4Runner anyway.
I guess it’s naive to think that the disappointment would be contained to the occasional RAV4 rental and the Prius that cursed our lives for almost 10 years.
Not unlike when you encounter industrial toilet paper that is < 1 micrometer thick, I can’t believe that plastic and fabric and foam that trashy gets put in a Toyota. What is never wasted on a single Toyota rental car? SOUND DAMPENING MATERIAL
We just did an 1800 mile roadtrip around the Deep South. We were stuck with a Hertz booking because we had a whole bunch of points and rental rates were insane so a free week’s rental made sense.
I was nervous given we were covering a lot of distance and really didn’t want to end up in a shitbox Nissan. We have status with Hertz so whilst there was nothing but shitbox Nissans and a couple of base Ford Escapes in the Presidents Circle area, we asked about taking a Subaru Ascent and the Hertz rep was super friendly and said of course. Have to say, I was impressed with it, even in base spec. Perfect roadtrip car. Boring but damn comfy.
@mllcb42 The guy at the counter asked me if I’d rather have an SUV than the full size I reserved, and I asked if they had an Outlander, but it wasn’t meant to be.
