Rising insurance premiums

As is discussed above, got to include a disclaimer that this isn’t always true. My ZDX is 40% less to insure than XC90 T8. They are probably worth about the same amount at this point.

I have no idea what algo set those rates but it is the same one that said my Jetta should cost almost as much to insure as my XC90.

That is fantastic. My 2007 ES350 is $676 and $1600 for the 2024 Macan for 6mo.

You can get a difference in condition all peril coverage that’s much better than normal earthquake coverage. It is however, very expensive and typically you only see it on expensive high risk homes.

Posting here, for those who can

my '24 taycan is 300 a month.
ICE porsche is 100.
05 Camry (worth 500) for liability only is 80.

EV’s have definitely been the most expensive for insurance, from my experience. My 24 Taycan 4S was like $230-$240/mo IIRC. Stupid money for that.

ya. I think the Ariya was like $120?

I don’t see myself getting another Taycan to pay $300 in insurance per month…
I could have stomached 200 but 300…glad it’s a 12 month lease.

COSTCO CONNECT-grandfathered in

2025 Tesla MYP: $462 for 6mo
2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 SEL: $330
2023 Toyota Mirai XLE $406

All cars set at 3000 miles/year 100/300K, GAP for the Tesla is $11 for the 6mo policy. No Car Rental, $1000/$1000 deductibles
That’s about $66.50/mo per EV in SoCal, I wouldn’t ever cancel this policy… :call_me_hand:

Geico renewal around the corner…

Relatively clean record, recent 10mph over limit ticket (no points) and was due for 3 year defensive course. Heart of NYC policy for 3 cars: xc90, Macan, es350.

Six months premium or one year?

6months indeed.

Doesn’t your insurance carrier know that only EVs are supposed to be expensive to insure?

At this point it seem like Geico will be the only player in town. They quoted me $2500 to insure a 2025 Model 3.

How many drivers ?

2 drivers only.

My insurance premium has decreased this year for the first time (maybe ever)

The time has come. My 16 year old son is going for his driver’s license this week, and we need proof that he has insurance when he goes to the DMV.

I leased an NX450h for him to drive and put him as the primary driver. This is through USAA in NC:

When I tried adding him without specifying what vehicle then they jacked up the G63 to $2200 every 6 months and the other vehicles a small amount, so it ended up being the same increase for 6 months total, so they get their pound of flesh either way.

Total 6 month rates go from $2000 to $3800.

Meanwhile a new state law just went into effect 7/1/25 that insurance rates are higher for teen drivers for 8 years now instead of 3 years for those getting their licenses after 7/1.

Put him on one car only and as an “occasional” driver, sharing the car with you.
