Punched car not disclosed

I purchased a new Audi A6 with 22 miles from an Audi dealer in 03/2019. Undisclosed to me was that the car had been punched in 05/2018. The warranty expired 05/2022 and now the car has a serious mechanical problem that the Audi dealer where I have moved says is not covered under the mfg. warranty since it expired 05/2022. This was a surprise to me. The dealer that sold me the car has not responded to my call or email. Audi of America was useless and said take it up with the dealer. Any advice on how to deal with this dishonest dealer?

What does your sale document say about the car? The long one.
Did you buy it as Used?
As a Demo?

Pull out the original paperwork, there would have been a document you had to sign if this was the case.

Post your sales paperwork. With your PII redacted.

If what you say is accurate you’re going to be in great shape to ream the dealer and OEM. If you signed papers you didn’t read or comprehend, less great!

Try another dealer, explain what happened and see if they can help. What does your purchase document say? Do you have an extended warranty through your insurance company? Geico offers really cheap add ons to the policy

Years ago I had a Mazda that had repeat transmission problems. It had an extended warranty through the original dealership that was still in force but I was new to the area and took it to the closest Mazda place that gave me BS about changing the transmission fluid. I went to another Mazda dealer they got it fixed under the extended warranty and it lived another 10 years

was it punched as a service loaner?

In 10 months it only went 22 miles? Even as a loaner it sounds weird. Also what year is it? 2018 or 2019? What is its production date?

I was also going to mention this…I’d check the sticker in the door jamb and see what it says as the manufacture date and perhaps somebody keyed a wrong date in. Or this was punched and then “hidden out back” and no one saw it or noticed the same vehicle on the aging inventory sheet for 6 months.

sometimes dealers punch cars to hit volume targets and claim them as service cars. Could be that they just never loaned the car out, wait till it sat for the required time as a service loaner, put it back for sale and sold it to you as a service loaner.

I actually had some thing similar happened to me for a different brand.

I’m pretty sure at the time of the sale they didn’t mentioned the car was punched to me. And I’m surprised to find out at another dealership that the warranty was ~ 12 months shorter than I expected.

This A6 was one of them that sat at the port for almost a year because of an passenger airbag sensor problem that it took Audi several months to resolve. I did contact the selling dealer GM today and he assured me that the car wasn’t punched 10 months prior to selling it to me and he will contact Audi to correct the in service date to the actual sales date and fix the warranty expiration date. We shall see.

thanks for the replies.

Keep us posted. So many times, people post situations on here then never come back to give the resolution.

I am guessing it was a 2018, since that year was subject to the recall/stop sale.

The GM called me (at least he responded) and said they would look for an after market warranty policy. The car is past 48 months on the punched date and does not qualify for audi pure protection. Which policy should I look out for? The GM still insists there was a error in the warranty and that the car was never punched but he says he is looking to make me whole. He also said they would be happy to service the car now but they are 135 miles away and if they screwed me when I bought the car why would I trust them now?
best after market non-audi policy?

it is a 2018 model, there is a date of 03/2018 on the B pillar

Kind of contradictory info from the GM.

A dealer “mistake” like this one coupled with a serious mechanical error with the car would have me demanding a buyback and a deal on a new*** car of my choice.

I doubt that any extended warranty purchased now would cover an existing problem.
