Pull-ahead programs?

Hi there. New Hackr here and was wondering if anyone has experience with a lease pull ahead option? I have a 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT, way under the mileage cap and it’s in very clean condition. There are six months left on the lease ($450/mo) and I’m getting offers/mailers from my primary dealership and others about “buying my in demand vehicle”. I went to CarMax, got the truck appraised at 35k, compared to the 33k RV given on my lease. Is there a specific way to play this? I’m concerned about early return fees, etc. and my goal is to get a similar vehicle to what I have now for around the same monthly payment but preferably less. Looking at the Sierra again (which I totally love) as well as the Toyota Tundra and the Nissan Titan. Seeking advice from anyone who has done this before or a leasing expert.

Thank you.

You need to get the current dealer lease buyout price from gmc. Call them or probably can see it in your online account.
Compare the current buyout (not residual) to the carmax deal. Also check prices with vroom and caravan. If one of these is giving you more than the buyout is then just sell to them now. You will avoid any turn in fees or damages.

That’s not a true “pull ahead” program from GM. That’s an old dealer trick to get you in the door and into a new car. Any negative equity you would have/remaining payments (depending on which route was chosen) would be rolled into the new lease.

Do you happen to know if BMW is doing 3 month pull-aheads?

Thank you JB. Looks like the lease buyout is $1,700 more than the appraisals I got, which were all quoting close to the same thing. GMC has a strong looking offer for current GM lessees for the Sierra I’m looking at and the dealership told me GMCF can typically do a pull-ahead offer on 3 to 4 months. Maybe I can get the 4 months and just pay the two months remaining. Stay tuned.

GMF will send you a mailer if you qualify for a pull ahead. You have to be on the manifest list to be eligible. If a dealer is telling you they can pull ahead, you better make sure they’re not rolling your payments, and have them prove to you that you are pull-ahead eligible.

AFAIK, Only on the X models, and 2 months I think.

pm over your VIN and I can see if it’s a legit pull-ahead

Would that include if he got a pull ahead offer by mail?

dealers send so much crap that it’s so hard to tell. i got a letter from my past dodge dealer and the envelope was addressed from chrysler capital. sneaky sneaky. and sometimes like with GM they send the 1500 allowance for loyalty which is already available, it’s not a targeted thing.

but the VIN is the only way to legit check.

Why not ride it out and try to get a deal in December for the 2019 Sierra? If you feel lucky you can even wait until March for end of first quarter deals.

@ScotyUtah - how close are you to being charged for tires? Do you have an excess wear and tear policy that covers chargeable worn tires?

Gm has a super secret list called the “manifest.” Nobody knows what qualifies you to get on it other than GM. This would be how to know if you’re eligible for a pull ahead if you lost/misplaced/didn’t get official notification from GM. Sales can look up VIN to confirm. Problem is, some can say you’re eligible, then hide your payments if you’re not, and don’t know how the game works. @chevysalesgirl ain’t no joke though…she’ll give OP the official thumbs up/down.

I received one from GM and got one from the dealer as well. Very hard to distinguished between the two. There should be a portal om GM website to check for these since there is a code on the invitation.
Got one from GM in july, but i am 8 months away during that time from lease maturity. Plus theres not a lot of “killer deals” back then. Will i get another one again?

Really good question. Since I haven’t put a ton of miles on the truck, the original tires are still in play, but they are getting close. This might be a good incentive to make the move now since I’d avoid paying for a new set and brakes.

It’s a thumbs up from @chevysalesgirl! 4 months and up to 2,500. That’s a game changer.

Check to see if you can make 1-2 payments yourself to qualify for the 4 months from GM.

i still get letters about paying off my remaining payments if i come in to lease a new car for my 2012 car which i haven’t had since 2014. Talk about not only spam but a waste of paper and postage.

hes got the golden ticket. now its trying to find a dealer that knows how to redeem and structure with it

@chevysalesgirl does GM allow lease extensions at all ?
