Most interested in the driving experience. Totally agree re:range not as meaningful as people make it out to be.
I wasn’t overly impressed with the performance of the dual motor Polestar (test drove twice) but for the money not too many options in this EV segment ex Tesla. Will drive the Mach E this week to see how it stacks up.
I found the seats uncomfortable, too. I found it to be a pretty boring car to drive. I test drove the Ioniq 5 the next day and liked it a LOT more than the P2.
Coming from legit fun cars that I’ve tracked like the mk8 R and the F-Type, the PS2 certainly is on the same level. It gets up to 100 in a HURRY and does so with zero drama. It’s astonishing how flat the suspension keeps the car as it carves curves at triple digits speeds with barely a whisper.
I do miss the raucousness of the Jag’s most excellent exhaust and the manual tranny in the R. But it is an otherworldly experience to have 400bhp hit instantly without the pretense of an exhaust heard a quarter mile away.
The seats are indeed firm. But I’ve never felt more rested after a 9 hour drive from the Bay to San Diego and I’ve must’ve done that trip 30-40 times in 20 years. No sore spots, mentally alert, and very happy with the long trip.
Agreed as well, picked mine up about 3 weeks ago from Detroit and drove it 5 hours home, seats felt just as good as the designo ones in my old E400 coupe, power was also quite a bit different in comparison as i’ve never had an EV before and having 487lbft of torque hitting instantly is definitely not boring! Never seen or driven the car in person before i picked it up so pleasantly surprised with it so far.
Since EVs are becoming giant phones with seats and wheels, it is just as important to assess the car’s software. While I love the simplicity of the Polestar’s user experience, software stability leaves a lot to be desired.
Many of the key differentiators of this car is reliant on internet connectivity: Google Maps, Assistant, Digital Key, etc. However, there are random connectivity outages for days/weeks. The fix is to wait it out until it resolves itself or to pull some fuses.
The mobile app is quite buggy and behaves inconsistently - pretty important if you plan on using your phone as the key.
While the car itself is a blast and built solid, the software seems like it was coded by consultants from Obamacare’s first website launch team.
I found Mach-Es in stock at several dealers, and I bought one at MSRP, so I have no idea where this “6-month wait” claim came from. Maybe for a GT or an extended range.
I had the pleasure of driving one in November 2021 at DFW Airport (National Rental Car)…and loved the look, inside and out! And it must have had an upgraded package as it had yellow seat belts and brakes. That said- I would like to consider leasing one…but some quick “research” and I am sensing that they don’t lease great?
The Jeep Wrangler 4xE does! My Acura lease has 11 payments left, and yes- trying to come to terms that the next lease will be at MSRP. That with RV’s in the low 50’s + no incentives + interest rates in the 2’s/3’s= crazy monthly payments compared to what many here (myself included) are used to…
the 4xe is on a 4-40 week backorder, so it’s really the choice for a flipper. You implying you were leasing it to keep. There is nothing right now in stock but the truck really and that will soon be depleted.
given that your acura likely has considerable equity in it, unless super high miles or accidents, it’s very likely your payment on your next lease will fall. no idea what you’re stressing over.
Mike- I “took advantage” of those crazy Acura Manufacturer to Dealer incentives that were running on those outgoing TLX models back in December 2019, thus spoiled in terms of how little I pay a month.
So why I “stress” (stupid I know!) is that:
My ideal next car would be a Giulia, however will RV’s in the 40’s, no way I’m paying that much to lease one
I’d like an Audi 3 or BMW 2, however- both seem to be about double vs. my current lease
I will probably end up with another TLX based on cost
Oh and regarding that Jeep Wrangler 4xE…my wife’s 2012 Highlander with 128k can go to Vroom for $13.1k, thus ok to take the money now, and enjoy the new Wrangler whenever it gets build out (as the $13.1k is a wash out against a one time pay option)
Back to that Polestar 2…I’d really like to get one!
While the P2 doesnt really count a a great deal to lease a few years ago, its not too bad for the current market. I got mine back in december, MF was 0.00001 and RV was 64% for 39/7.5. think the LH score came out to be 8.5ish with everything accounted for. If you have 11 payments left and want a good deal then just go fo the wrangler, its probably the best deal right now for car leases.
