Paying over MSRP for Genesis? Anyone believes it is true and not a trick?

At their prices, the only people that care about reliability of new Lexus cars are baby boomers and the older generation.

Those mind sets are changing for younger folks with money and Lexus is losing market share and will continue to do so.

I think that’s why Lexus went to the extremes of redesigning their corporate language around the spindle grilles. Attempting to market to a younger generation.

Reading all this about lexus prioritizing reliability, fit, and finish over being modern, cutting edge, etc makes me think that lexus is the anti-tesla. I wonder if one should look at the public (and market) perception of tesla’s priorities to give insight into future success of Lexus.

I hope so, I have/had 3 Rx’s from 2004 till now. The 2012 model is my current car, how poorly the car drives irks me from the beginning and I am not a guy that look for super handling in a SUV. It seems like it’s forever trying to find the right gear and the gas mileage is atrocious. I used to own them for reliability reason but now I’m leasing that’s less of a problem. As for dealership experience, I used Toyota dealerships so I haven’t been in a Lexus dealer for a long time. They were very posh as I remembered. I really hope they put out some more up to date products soon.

When I used to peruse the mbworld.org, insiders in the ROW (rest of the world) had already commented many yrs ago that the luxury brands (not just w/i the automotive world) were designing stuff for Chinese tastes.

I think there will be space (at least in the near and mid-term future) for “counter programming.”

I think the current RX platform goes back to the early 2000s? I had a rental previous-gen Camry and that thing handled so badly that it bordered on dangerous, IMHO. Not sure how Lexus plans to differentiate the next RX from the Venza, but the Venza and RAV4 have gotten fairly decent reviews, so I imagine the extra refinement for a Lexus will make for a nice package.

I think my RX was based on the ES, I had a 2007 RX which has decent handling. I had one ski trip where literally cars were just peeling off and hitting the guard rail on I-80 in the snow where the Rx was very sure footed. These manufacturers will always defend their design decisions (just like the TL beak) until they are gone.

I’m Chinese and I don’t like big grilles although I don’t live in China :grinning: China market is strange sometimes just like how they were in love with Buicks (not sure if they still do). I really hope Lexus come out with some innovative products to make things interesting.

I’m sure that come 2030, Lexus will show us the best 2020 has to offer.

I don’t get it why Lexus ended production of the GS with MY20. Maybe, they don’t care about potential customers like myself. I am not interested in an SUV, and the ES is plain old boring. The GS would have been the only Lexus I could see myself driving.

How is Lexus reliability lately? Anyone knows what JD Powers shows?

When I skimmed the JD Power site just now, it appears that the company now only provides ranks w/i a class (rather than by make).

FWIW, Consumer Reports has Toyota and Lexus ranked #2 and #3 respectively (stating the new LS has had massive reliablity issues [!!!] but that all other models have excellent reliability).

And shares its platform w/ huge volume Toyota models, so the cost of continuing to produce this is probably pretty small, by Toyota standards. Don’t know if the GS could be cost effective on the TNGA RWD platform. I suppose the only reason the IS sticks around is perhaps b/c it sold more than did the GS? But not enough more to merit more than a heavy platform revision recently…

True. It is a shame though that Lexus “gave up” on it.

Give it a couple more yrs, and you may get what you wish from Mazda (which is rumored to be releasing an inline-6, RWD sedan in a few yrs). :slight_smile:

Like 80’s and early 90’s Cadillac, Lexus has their sweet spot dialed in perfectly: Aging customers who like the brand name, comfort, reliability and LACK of bleeding edge technology to piss off/confuse them. Unfortunately for them this won’t carry over into 2030 and beyond as this segment of the population ages out of the auto market. Unless they make adjustments they will be left out in the cold just like Cadillac was.

Funny enough, I was actually selected for JD Power surveys for both my Gladiator and Bolt LT. I wasn’t offered anything and I just get them from time to time, asking me various questions about my ownership of the vehicle. For the couple of minutes it takes to respond I don’t mind that much. I believe there’s a prize drawing you get entered into for responding?

Or Infiniti, funny how they milk these old infotainment and the same 3.5L/3.7L six for so long.

It becomes a comfortable experience when you get used to it. Quite fun actually.

Biggest overage was $68,000 over for a 1 of 1 SVO Bespoke Range Rover SVA LWB. 20-25k over is normal for C8s.
